If you're getting a new PC you should probably get Vista. No need not to, unless you're using hardware and software from 1995 that shouldn't work now anyway. Vista is more secure, has more options available (stable, without any strange hacks/programs), and it is the future. XP is fine for an older machine, and obviously you're not thinking of putting Vista on it. But, if you're going to a newer computer and you don't need XP for something that a business person would need it for, go with Vista.

You can read more about Vista, and my experiences with it, in my Rsbandb Informer article found here

I'm on XP on my new pc. Why? because most of my stuff (emulators, programs, and such) will not work properly or not at all)

Depends on what you have, if you're like me stick with XP otherwise get Vista.

XP most stuff that works on XP wont work on Vista, and vista is kinda unstable even with the SP1 memory guzzler for sure.

You could use a dual boot system. Having both XP and Vista as options at boot up. I use XP for most games and online games as it uses less memory. Vista fo Office and work related stuff. Though if you have 2 gig of ram Vista will run fine for your games.

As others have mentioned Vista is still not compatible with some software.

I have only found one program that doesn't work on Vista that works on XP, and it's something that tests XP, so I wasn't surprised that it didn't work. Vista is quite stable, especially with SP1.

If you're getting the new computer and you're not reusing older programs, as I said before, you probably won't have any issues whatsoever with Vista.

With that size memory you should be able to run Vista without having to worry about it guzzling all your memory.

Get Vista if you would like to have the following:
-Folder refreshes take longer then loading up a web page
-FOUR, not one, but FOUR shutdown screens coming up randomly while you use your computer.
And then if you click "cancel" on all of them, it closes all your background applications, make the program you are currently using stop responding, and explorer will crash.
-Forced update restarts
-System tray icons randomly disappearing when you click the "expand tray" button.
-Random Explorer crashes
-Idle state CPU and mem usage above 50%

Yes, I've used Vista. And all of the above have happened to me more than once.

So. If you still have the chance, go XP.
