4gb ram

some ddr3 ready asus motherboard with 4 ddr2 slots and 2 ddr3 slots
700w psu

for £485. placed a £50 deposit.

Which windows are you getting? x64 Vista supports up to 16gb?, While x32 will support no more than 3gb, Put in more it wont recognize it.

keeping my current version of XP. keeping everything i got in my pc, just upgrading those 5 parts.

Ok but get 3gb, XP isn't going to recognize 4gb, what it will say is 3.10 GB, but its your money, so you decide.

you only need 3gb of ram anyways. not going to notice that much of a difference with above 3gb of ram. just get a good processor.

e8400 sries is brand new so no worries there, for 20 quid i cba cancelled the order and re-ordering again to change to 3gb, idc ill just stick the 4g in.

Ya 32 bit xp will only recognize 3.12 gigs of ram at the most.. If you have lots of stuff installed it can be less.. The use more than that you would have to move up to a 64 bit OS..
