lots of video games have a hard mode you can play after you've done a certainpart of it, usually after you "beat" it. hard modes offer more difficulty, and sometimes they enable you to get things you normally couldn't.

what do you all think of a runescape hard mode? after you reach 99 in a skill or complete all quests, you have an option to restart that skill to level 1, but with better abilities and rewards. such as decreasing the level required to do something, and adding hidden bonuses above the normal limit.

examples: hard mode magic gives randomly up to 50% more gold when alching, charging increases max hit to 40 instead of 30, enchanting jewelry enchants up to 10 at a time, etc.

hard mode mining/smithing: ores lower level to mine/smith, rune being mineable at level 60 mining. level 85 mining lets you into a mining facility where dragon and titanium can be mined and smithed. (titanium level 95 to mine and smith)

hard mode thieving gives double the cash, and at higher levels lets you steal from kings throne rooms and pickpocket kings. even pickpocket from non-aggressive dragons.

hard mode construction: 1/4 cost planking, since you spent so much money on the first time to 99, and at certain intervals, you could make your own planks. level 90 gives access to several new rooms that allow you to bypass the stake limit duels party pete, etc.

possibilities are endless, but heres the question... if you got a skill to 99, would you give it up for hard mode? >:)

lol, i'd do hard mode defense so it wouldn't be so underpowered >.>

hard mode skillcapes would feature improved emotes, special trims, and stats above that of a fire cape. (+3 attacks, +15 defenses, +5 strength and prayer)

Uhh, no. I'd rather just stick with that cape or 99 skill I have at the moment.

See I'd love this, like COD4s leveling system once you hit a certain level you have an option to reset everything back to level 1 and if you max the level again you get a golden gun.

I'd like that, reseting skills back to 1 but you keep your skill total, you could reset and if you bag 99 smithing again you get the ability to smith dragon or something. The rewards would have to be good for the work though.

One thing though the option of hard mode shouldn't be available unless you've maxed EVERY skill and doing it should set ALL SKILLS back to 1. If someone just maxes a skill, resets it and maxes it again that's far to easy, the balance is you can have this super powerful option but it will cost you EVERYTHING you've worked for so far.

Well, duh? Why else do they pay the money in the first place? Just for the opportunity to be level 99?

I like this idea. It would give Zezima something to do, that's for sure.

However, I think there should be an option to switch back to all level 99 without the ability to gain exp in this "secondary" set of levels, as well as returning to it to train. That way, it can be entirely optional, flexible, and something for all level 99s to work on once the game is done without sacrificing their status.

This is a great idea I think, it adds so much more possibilities to the game and you can actually do something after you get a skill to 99. If I were you I would suggest this to Jagex, doubt they will do the exact thing but they might consider doing something like it in the future.

Its a cool idea. But, I don't think it will ever happen. If anything, I think Jagex would raise the level cap.

For example, reseting 99 defence to 1. Leveling it would be a breeze, since most people with 99 defence has 90+ attack and strength.

Great idea. I think it might be better to just make it so levels can go to 200 or something.
If you were to reset the levels it would have to be in groups like: fighting, reset atack, strength, defence, and hitpoints; armor, reset mining and smith; ect.

i like the idea. although if jagex were to do it, it would probably be done badly and have tons of complaints. I wish before you start a quest you could do easy medium or hard mode. it would change difficulty of bosses/puzzles but each difficulty would have an increased reward.

example:

black knight's fortress (2k gold reward)

easy: 2k gold as reward
medium: 5k gold
hard: 10k gold

easy quest but that was the best example i could think of.

loving the idea spartez, but one alteration to that: each level has the same reward, but completeing a higher level stacks the previous reward on top of it.

thus, if you did vampire slayer on easy you'd get 2k attack exp, on medium you'd get 2k exp again if you did easy already, or if you started on medium you'd get 4k total. then if you did hard you'd get the 2k from all three modes, for 6k exp.
Spoiler for example:

the difference could be easy you just fight it and stab it and its hp doesn't restore fast. for medium you need garlic to weaken it and hp restores decently fast. for hard you have to shoot it with silver bolts to make him vulnerable, then use garlic, then you can damage him and stake him. combat level varies as well.

that sorta thing eh. :P
