Vista wont start up

Well Right now I'm on my laptop where the problem is occuring. I'm currently in Safe Mode with networking but whenever I try to boot up my laptop just normally it will show the windows vista loading and then its goes black and doesn't load the log-in screen. It just stays all black, I've waited 10 minutes and nothing happened. So if anyone knows what could be the problem it would be please reply.

System restore it? Scan for a virus? Reinstall operating system?

Do a system restore.. and it may have been a recent hardware install. I had the same problem a few weeks ago.. I purchased sprint broadband and the USB adapter that i bought caused my computer to not start up.. Yeah.. i uninstalled that in safe mode and returned it and i haven't had a problem since.
