It's impossible to agree anymore than I do. I'm sick of Jagex not doing anything with fansites.
Oh, and someone need to bumb the topic, I don't have members

Nor do I or I would bump the thread myself...
I remember when guild wars was coming out...my friend told me about it. There wasn't very much speculation with the game because the creators were fairly forthright in providing data about the future game. They also let everyone know what type of a game (buying updates every 6 to 8 months I believe, I don't play, but that was what my friend told me it was going to be).
Now, I'm not patronizing Guild Wars, in fact my friend didn't even end up liking the game, but at least the game creators were more forthright. But that is what you do when you are writing to an older crowd. You get people interested by letting them know about features and making them part of the process.
Contrast that with what Jagex does. If there was an RS3 coming out...none of us would know about it till it was released. They drop us hints at the beginning of each month...but a lot of these features have been in the works for months. Then the way the introduce the feature is by throwing everyone in the game in, and a week or two later they fix what they have done...makes for very choppy and sloppy game play (I'm thinking of the assist system...with the 10k noobs at yew trees crying assist me all day) everything inside and outside of the game has to be controlled by Jagex. The game is made for the players to play, the players are not there to improve the game.
As long as Jagex has that attitude, RS will remain a 10 year olds game...and it is getting more that way. Ten year olds love surprises, that is how Jagex keeps them interested...10 year olds always have to have something new and shiny so Jagex gives them weekly (secret) updates. Older players play for the long term...level 99 skills, and long boring quests that require skill advancement to complete. I once new a 10 year old that played...I don't know what he did all day, but I was leveling 3 or 4 times faster than he was... and I had started a year or two later! I guess he just talked and walked around all day...I told him how to get his skills up but he was always getting bored and going and doing something else. Those are the type of people that Jagex builds runescape for and who Jagex makes rules for. The kid actually bought one of those gold guides...form one of those sites...I can tell you how to make millions in RS...but it takes time and dedication!
I just hope that jagex can see that there are major, major drawbacks to running a game as a secret, or by making updates that appeal to lazy players. Also I hope that Jagex sees that fan sites can and most often do make the game that much better. Until then we just have to take the game as it comes.
