The Australian system is as follows:

Year's 3, 5, 7 = Basic skills test.
Year 10 = School certificate (tells you whether or not you can get into year 11)
Year 12 = Higher School Certificate *HSC* (tells you whether or not you can get into university, out of 100. Highest recorded mark-99.9, My brother got 99.7)

You Brits and your GCSEs. It would be great if getting into college was easy as that in America. =$

What do you need to get into college in America?

Most American students who are looking to attend uni take a either the ACT or SAT (not sure what the acronyms stand for). The ACT is a more achievement-based exam, while the SAT offers more abstract questions. Both tests record mathematical and writing/reading skills. Depending on how high your score is, your chances of getting into uni increase.

I glanced at an SAT study booklet while in a bookstore in the US and it looked pretty easy. In Germany, we (gymnasium students) had to take our abitur. It's the final exam to beat all final exams. It's measured on a scale of 100-840, but I think that the passing level was 280 or something. But, yeah, it's almost required if you're a German who wants to attend university.

But anyway, on topic, congrats on your results!

The SAT tests get you into college? I though that was a joke when I first saw them.

I'm not kidding, we learn how to do stuff that level when we're 12, especially the Maths.

Seriously, how can you get things like this wrong:

I somehow don't think there the same. XD It's kinda funny to think a test we take at age 14-15 is a test they'd take to get into uni rotfl

but i somehow don't think it's the same. Saying that - looking at those tests tehy do seem to be similar but i did my SATs long long ago, i don't remember them to well so i can't really talk.

It goes something like this: SAT > Crossword in a language you're barely profiecient in > Eating a cookie > Practice SAT.

Either way, SAT doesn't mean crap if you can't afford it. Scholarships are so rare and usually so miniscule that it's pathetic to say the least.

Mkay, finished my SATs at the end of my last school year, (year 9) and they were for the most part, fairly easy. My best result was 8B on a 6-8 tier Maths paper 1 and 2. But I don;t know how American result syestm works, so yeah. And I'm doing my GCSE's next year in year 11, going into year 10 now, but I've I try hard enough, then I should be doing my Maths GCSE a year early.

Anyways, congrats on everyone's results.
