Hey everyone.

This week's theme is History. Your signature must show a significant defining moment, event, person or any other thing (at the discretion of judges) in history. You must give a short description of what the moment/person/etc is. These significant "things" can be from any part of the world, but if they are not particularly well known it is advised that you use as much detail as possible and link to a Wikipedia article (or similar) alongside.

For example, if you made a signature related to September 11, a very well known moment/event in history, you would only have to post a brief sentence to describe your sig.
Something like the Tangiwai disaster of '53 (the worst ever rail accident in New Zealand) might require a little more detail and in that case I would recommend a whole paragraph.

Thanks to Jaden (Dr Doom) for this theme.
RSBANDB, your task has been set. Good luck, have fun! :P

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, also know as the "Red Baron" was a German fighter pilot who was considered the most successful flying ace of WWI, consisting of 80 confirmed air combat victories. That streak was soon ended when the Red Baron was shot down by an unkown person in 1918.

Well, you should all vaguely know what happened and hiroshima (and nagasaki). But anyway here goes:
August 6th 1945 a B-45 bomber dropped, what was the be the end of WWII, the Atomic Bomb. It Claimed 140000 lives of mostly civilians. The Atomic bomb (in Hiroshima and Nagasaki) is said to have caused the Japan to surrender. This was the first time an Atomic Bomb had been used in warfare and the atomic bomb hasnt been used since 9th August 1945 in Nagasaki.

The September 11, 2001 attacks (often referred to as 9/11—pronounced "nine eleven") consisted of a series of coordinated terrorist suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on the United States of America on September 11, 2001.

It is believed that the attacks were originally planned to be executed between March and September 2000 but eventually occurred on the morning of September 11, 2001, when nineteen terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (1 WTC and 2 WTC), resulting in the collapse of both buildings soon afterward and irreparable damage to nearby buildings. The hijackers crashed a third airliner (American Airlines Flight 77) into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. In addition to the 19 hijackers, 2,973 people died; another 24 are missing and presumed dead. The victims were predominantly civilians.

^^ Straight from Wikipedia about 9/11 :P

Well, Auschwitz was one of the Nazi's most well known and terrible death camps, my Great Grandmother survived it and was there when it was liberated. Auschwitz was liberated on January 27, 1945 and all of the survivors were set free. My sig has a picture of some of the survivors.

Below are some articles on Auschwitz and it's liberation. I hope you liked my sig and read up on the liberation. Rf10s7

this is an article on the camp.

Thanks for your concern, though. -Chief

Dr Doom on rsbandb and Jaden on draynor.net are the same person.

In the top it says thanks to jaden for the idea, they obviously talked about it.

Another thing, this thread is for entries only. If you have any more concerns about plagiarism forward your request to an admin or SOTW judge.

Edit:

DISQUALIFIED - Plagiarism is not tolerated on these boards, you are lucky you are not banned.

Kind of ironic that you accuse people of copying then you do it yourself.

It was copied from here

The attack on Pearl Harbor (or bombing of Pearl Harbor) was a naval battle and surprise attack on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawaii, carried out by naval forces of the Empire of Japan.

It was launched on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941 (Hawaii time) by the Combined Fleet's Carrier Striking Task Force against the United States Pacific Fleet and other U.S. armed forces stationed at the harbor and on the other side of Oahu. The attack spurred the U.S. into a declaration of war, and the United States officially entered World War II the next day. The War in the Pacific effectively began at this point.

American casualties amounted to 2403 dead and 1178 wounded. 188 aircraft were destroyed and five battleships, one minelayer, and three destroyers were sunk or severely damaged. By contrast, Japan's losses were 64 dead, one captured, 29 aircraft, and five midget submarines. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the U.S. Congress the next day, he famously stated that December 7 is "a date which will live in infamy."

The intent of the pre-emptive strike was to protect Japan's move into Singapore and the Dutch East Indies, executed to secure her access to natural resources (mainly oil), by neutralizing the U.S. Pacific Fleet (in the fashion predicted by war plans on both sides). The Japanese high command was certain any attack on British colonies would inevitably bring the U.S. into the war. By contrast, President Roosevelt had moved the fleet to Hawaii to deter Japanese aggression against China, or European colonies in Asia.

is that 2 big?

Thank you for the history lesson!! The image is too big, though, sorry! Disqualified. And I'm sure you didn't take that yourself .. ~Kelsey
