It seems that having level 99 in a skill is useless. Other than being able to wear a snazzy cape and the excitement of having one of those only lasts an hour or two.

The only skill that requires level 99 in order to do something is smithing and construction, you need level 99 to make a rune platebody, platelegs, plateskirts and a 2 hander and also 99 construction for the Demonic Throne.
(Thanks Warren :p)

Do you think level 99 should allow you to do something else instead of just having the ability to purchase and wear a cape?

You also need 99 construction for the Demonic Throne.

Yes, I do think there should be things at level 99 besides a cape. I'd prefer things that are over level 100 though, so you will have to use a potion to beable to do them.

You can't forget that the skillcapes are very good.
Especially the trimmed capes.

I have almost 6 99 skills.
They are Attack, Strenght, Defence, Hitpoints, Woodcutting and Agility (30k left for 99).
None of those are useless to get 99.

There aren't a lot of skill that are useless to get to 99.
Those skills are: Runecrafting, Herblore, Crafting, Fletching, Slayer & Cooking

Why get a 99 quickly when you can enjoy the skill for a longer time and make a lot of money in the process?

Runecrafting stops at 91 mostly.
Herblore stops at 85, I think.
Crafting stops at 90, fury amulet.
Fletching... Same old thing, just that it's overdone.
Slayer, while it stops at 85, people go for 99 for the cape, since it's awesome and all.
Cooking, less chances of burning so yes.

You can get a demonic throne at level 87 if you have the right items, but you'll have to be really lucky at getting the max bonus out of a Evil Stew Of Doom.

Ok I see the fact that most skills aren't useless at 99, like agility and combat skills.

But I'm asking if you think there'd be something extra you could use once you reach that level.

Lets say, armour at 99 defence, weapon at 99 attack...

There is not a possible fair weapon for 99 attack, nor armor for 99 defense. Look how powerful the whips and barrows are just for the 70's. They would have to up the hitpoints over 99 or people would die in two hits. :-s

Remember that everyone was thinking of special bonusses you could get for getting a 99 skill.

As in faster smithing, ability to make 4 dose potions, etc. etc.

That would be a nice reward for getting 99.

Doesn't necessary have to make the weapon more powerful maybe attacking a bit faster than normal. :|

The thing is Jagex don't want to develop updates for such a small group of people.

x10 airs at 99 :) I think that skill capes should give a bonus for the skill, like for fletching, while you have the cape on, string x. With the runecrafting cape on, +1 more rune per essence. And stuff like that.

99 skills ARE useless. And I think they SHOULD make a special...thing for 99 for each level.

fishing - a certain fish
woodcutting - A certain tree, etc.

The only thing that wouldn't work would be RC...

Come to think of it again, maybe give all the skills a special item that's only obtainable at 99, and if you have all skills at 99, you can forge a somewhat-ultimate weapon or armor(possibly weapon, since armor would unbalance it too much) with the special items from the skills.

Airs can easily be bought cheap, and besides who wants to spend months getting up over 7m exp just for the airs. Not that it's more profitable than double nats or anything like that..

Flame baiting, spamming or whatever, I think it would have been only fair to ask what everyone else thought first. Regardless of the outcome, it would have been a lot less selfish (because removing it like this is) and would have gotten a much better response.

I can understand what everyone is saying, but personally, I find it's alright at the moment, partly because I have no 99 skills, and also because getting 99 is a reward in itself, for some skills, you could get a very high place on the high scores.

I find that I'm working towards a 99 skill because then I'll be able to say, I have a 99 skill, I'm not expecting to get better equipment from the level though.
