Allofmp3 is a russian business that sells music without paying many royalties at all, and has been very controversial. According to russian law, however, they are completely legal... just not US law.

The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) have decided to sue allofmp3 for the maximum they possibly can, for all the songs downloaded from their site between June and October this year.

'Maximum Possible' = $150,000 per song.
'All the songs downloaded' = 11 million.

Do the multiplication, and you soon see how greedy the RIAA are. They are suing allofmp3.com for a massive $1,650,000,000,000 - yes, you did read that right, $1.65 TRILLION dollars. Imagine Microsoft, then add Wal-mart, Apple and Ikea. Now times that by four. Thats how much money the RIAA want.

$150 000 a song... What the hell. Seeing as it was a Russian site and its legal in Russia... it shouldn't be that much. The site should be shut down, yes. Or at least closed to anyone where its illegal in their country. If their going to get sued I think $10 a song would be more realistic.

lol irl. They'll never get the money, Allofmp3 will go ultra-bankrupt. The bad part is that Russia can protect the business.

Agreed.

Lawsuits fought over international borders are not easy to win. The RIAA may have supreme rule in the US, but in Europe and Asia it's hopeless. Sweden was put under pressure by the MPAA and RIAA to go after the Torrent site, Pirate Bay, but nothing came of the seizure of several servers.

AllOfMP3 operates off of some obscure law in Russia regarding cable TV, but it'll be interesting to see if the courts give this credence.
