Zogre Bone Prayer Guide
~~~Note to mages~~~
-There is a way to approach the zogres without even touching a bow, which applies the use of crumble undead. I'm not sure how efficient this technique is as of yet, but I am going to look into it soon.
(Thank you umballer for bringing this to my attention
)
Requirements:
Membership (sorry f2pers)
Have completed zogre flesh eaters
Have the skills necesary to make an ogre composite bow and brutal arrows
Knife(for arrows)
Hammer(for arrows)
Reccomendations:
High range lvl
Ability to make high lvl brutal arrows
Have completed ghosts ahoy (strongly reccomended for ancestral bones)
Have a house with an altar (higher the better)
A substantial amount of marentill for the altar
Dueling rings for quick access back to jiggig (zogre area)
A high thieving lvl (not necessary, but it helps if you are picking the coffins)
Ok, now with that out of the way, heres what you need to do to optimize your prayer rewards from the zogres
Step by step
Step One: Arrows
Start out by getting a substantial amount of nails (the higher the lvl the better)
the number of nails you should get should be determined by the amount of experience you wish to recieve from the zogres. Each nail that you make gets you approximately 30-60 prayer experience when its all said and done.
Once you have the appropriate amount of nails for your desired prayer experience, its time to make the brutal arrows. Brutal arrows are made with arrow shafts made by an achey tree, so its off to castle wars we go. Once you arrive at cw, go outside and south to the hunting grounds. The achey trees are the ones with no leaves. IMO, its a much greater use of time if you just buy the achey logs from uglug nar near the entrance to the burial area just to the east of the hunting ground, because they are mucho cheapo (I think they go for around 3 to 6 g). World hop if he runs out of stock, or if he is charging to much per log.
Back to the achey logs. Once you have an inventory full of them, start cutting them into arrowshafts with a knife. You should be cutting from 2 to 6 shafts per log so be patient. Once you have the same amount of arrowshafts as you do nails, go on to the next step for making your arrows.
Now that you have all your shafts and arrowheads, its time to add the feathers.
Brutal arrows are a pain in the neck when it comes to this, because each arrow takes 4 feathers to complete. Hopefully you know of some means to get feathers by the time you get to making brutal arrows, but if not... I guess ill give some little pointers:
-Buy them from f2pers in the various chicken coops near and around lumbridge
-Go to the fishing supply shops in either Shilo village or Port Sarim and world hop when necessary.
-If you are a scrooge when it comes to things like this, just kill chickens
Once you have 4x the amount of feathers that you have nails, its time to attach the feathers. Once all your feathers are attached to your arrow shafts, the time comes for you to use a hammer to slam the nails into the shafts. This requires nothing more than a hammer and the nails/arrowshafts.
Step Two: Preparation and Traveling
Now that you have all the brutal arrows you need, its time to pick up your composite bow that you made for the zogres quest and head to the bank for supplies.
(If you havent already done so, now would be a good time to make a relycims balm and give it to uglug nar so you can purchase them for 200g)
The supplies you will need to fight zogres include:
-Full set of range equipment
-Ogre comp bow and brutal arrows
For optimum efficiency when fighting zogres, you will need:
(This pertains to all who have an altar at their home)
-1 law, 1 air, and 1 earth for house telly
-2 marentill and a tinderbox (to light incense burners for increased prayer bonus)
-200g or relycims balm to recover from sickness
-Dueling ring to get you back to cw after going to your altar
Your inventory should look similar to this:
(The next section is for those who have an altar in their home. If you do not have an altar that you can access, skip down to the end of the guide and theres a few tips for you.)
Once you have all the materials, go south from cw and trade uglug nar 200g for a relycims balm if you dont have one in your inventory. Head east from uglug, over the broken fence area and into jiggig. At this point you should see a bunch of decomposing ogres dancing around a fire. Head farther east of this until you reach another room with a staircase. When in this room you should see a sarcophageos to the south west of the room. Go just to the east of this to find the safe spot for ranging the zogres.
Here's a picture of where you can stand
Step Three: The Bones
Have at them.
Once you kill a zogre, they will drop 2 things: zogre bones (which you shouldnt bury just yet), and an ogre coffin key. Use the ogre coffin key on the coffin near the safe spot and you may find yourself holding an expensive ancestral ogre bone.
There are a variety of useless items that can also be obtained by the coffins, but you more likely than not will find yourself with zogre bones. When you open a chest, you can obtain 2 items at a time. You can get zogre bones of a certain type, and at the same time you could find yourself in the possession of a useless barrage of random items. if you get a random item first, you won't be getting a zogre bone this time around, but if you get a zogre bone, you still have the chance of getting a useless item in your coffin. Keep in mind, some times you will open a coffin and find nothing!
At least twice a load tho, you will recieve an ancestral bone. These have 3 varieties:
-Fayrg which give 348 xp when ectoed
-Raurg which give 384 xp when ectoed
-Ourg which give a whopping 560 xp when ectoed
When you get any of these bones, feel free to shout a celebratory yelp, because they are the quickest means to gain prayer xp.
~~~Note to thievers~~~
(Again something brought to my attention by umballer)
When you right click the casket, you have the option to also picklock the casket. i dont reccomend doing this very often, as you tend to lose temorary thieving levels quite often due to "fumbling with the lock", and also run the risk of opening a spore of sickness which acts the same as the other sicknesses. If you do decide to take this path, (I do it sometimes when i have 1 open spot of inventory left) you can get any of the things that come from the normal key method. If you would rather just pick lock for your bones, you could stock up on relycims balms and super restore pots (not sure that works for thieving tho).
Random items obtainable from coffins:
-Normal zogre bones
-Hatchets from bronze to steel(not sure if they go higher than that)
-5 to 15 nails from bronze to black
-Pickaxes from bronze to steel
-Herbs (not sure, but they tend to be high lvl)
-Buttons
-Knives
-Broken arrowshafts
-Rusty swords
-Broken staves
-lvl 1 clue scrolls (i've found 1 in my life, and it was horrible too)
-Tinderboxes
-Damaged armor
-Nothing <_<
(More coming soon

)
In case of the unlikely event of getting sick, all you must do to alleviate your symptoms is to take 3 doses of relycims balm. That oughta make you feel better in no time
Now, once you have filled your inventory with assorted zogre bones and ancestral bones, its time to use your house telly. Once at home, you need to head straight to your altar and use your marentill on each of the incense burners. Now click all the zogre bones and use them on the altar. I wouldnt advise using the ancestral bones on your altar, as they can be much more valuable to you if they are ectoed.
Once you have emptied out your inventory, its time to use ur dueling ring to get back to the action. Telleport to castle wars, and deposit your ancestral bones.
dont forget to reload on relycims balm if you got sick.
Take 2 more marentill and another set of house telly runes, and go back to the zogre area until you run out of arrows.
Step Four: Ectoing
Once you run out of arrows, its time to ecto your ancestral bones. First off you need to finish off the zogre bones in your inventory by undergoing the same steps as you did before with your altar. this time, instead of using a dueling ring to return back to the zogre area, make your way to port phasmatys via an ectophial.(or if you have no ectophial, you can make your way to port phasmatys using kharyryl telleport either by using the ancient magicks, or by creating a karyryll portal). if you use kharyryll telly, you will reappear about 200 steps west of where you want to be, in a place called canifis. just run a little ways north, past the slayer master, then east untill you see port phasmatys.
Once in port phasmatys, make your way to the bank and withdraw ur ghost speak amulet (mandatory if you are going to do more than 12 ectos). it will speed up the banking process and allow you to grab your ecto tokens after worshiping at the shrine. Equip your amulet, and withdraw a full inventory of buckets (depending on how many ancestral bones will determine how many trips of this fashion you will be taking) leave one space for your ectophial, which you will be using to further shorten the time period of your ectoing.
~~~Note to ectoers~~~
The next part of ectoing your bones will be a little lengthy if you dont have lvl 58 agility, so it would be advised to achieve this level.
Now use your ectophial.
Before going further, refill your vial (something you ought to do EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU USE IT).
Now, on the west side of the room there is a trapdoor, which you will be opening to get down to the ectofuntus. climb down the ladder and you will appear in another circular room, although it is enormous in comparison to the one above. this is where 58 agility comes in handy. For those who have it, take the ledge leap to the level below, and continue on down the levels until you arrive at the green gooey level. Those who dont have 58 will have to circle the whole room to reach the stairs, and then another 3 times to reach the bottom.
When you see the gooey green stuff (ectofuntus its called) use your inventory of empty buckets on it. After you have filled all your buckets, use your ectophial to get out of the basement quickly, and then bank your buckets. If you managed to obtain more than 27 ancestral bones, you will need to do this process again until you have enough ectofuntus to ecto all your bones.
The next step is the fun part, when you finally get to reap the full rewards of zogre bones. for this part, you will need 9 buckets of ectofuntus, 9 pots (the kind you hold flour in, not vials), 9 ancestral bones, and an ectophial. (this is the best inventory arrangement i have found thus far, if any arrangements are better, please bring it to my attention). Use your ectophial to bring yourself back into the circular shrine. from this point, you will want to take the eastern stairs to the second floor. Here you will use your zogre bones on the bone crushing thingamagig (<--technical term). you insert the bones into the vat on the east side, turn the wheel in the center, then click on the tray on the west side, until all of your bones are in your pots. (use your ectophial if you are too lazy to go down the stairs)
click on the altar of green gooey stuff in the center of the room, which will empty your pots of their bonemeal, and award you with gobbs of prayer xp. After you finish praying at the altar, talk to a ghost disciple for your ecto tokens, because they can only hold 60 at a time. A message appears that you can no loger pray if you dont take your ecto tokens from the disciples, but dont worry, you can take your tokens at any time. once you fnish each load, go back to the bank and do the same steps... until you run out of bones!
and thats that!
Oh, i almost forgot... those of you who dont have your own altar can still reap the rewards from zogres. do all the same things as shown above, with the exception of not bringing anything for your house. what i would do is get a full load of zogre bones and ancestral bones, then walk outside of the burial area to bury the zogre bones so as to not raise any zogres from the grave.
~~Note to people without altars~~
If you bury a bone in the zogre area, there is a chance that a zogre will "rise from the dead... again!". this is not a good thing. first off, the monster will be aressive towards you. second off, the experience from burying the bone is nullified if a zogre rises from the dead. so do yourself a favor and bury ur bones outside!!
This process allows for you to stay near the zogre pit until you run out of inventory for your ancestral bones.
please leave some constructive criticism for this guide, as it took a very short time to write.
hopefully i can figure out how to put pictures in here.... and i will attempt to add the ectoing section soon, that is if this gets any recognition....
sorry to all who dont have an altar at their home as well... it would put a damper on my day if i didnt have one. if you would like to use mine in my house (that is if im home of course) just give me a heads up, and ill get down there.
thank you, and happy hunting
I <3 you all!
