1-Author’s Note: First of all, I am not guaranteeing that this is the best way. This is simply the way I did it. I felt it went quickly and I enjoyed playing. Second of all, my hybrid is still a work in progress, so I’m writing this from a process point of view, not as a completed model. This guide will lead you to make a hybrid as I see it, mine is currently leading in ranging, so I will lead with what I feel is best. Also, my guide will lead you through the most rapid levels of development, eventually leaving you with decent stats and the ability to go as you wish through the slower stages. I will write most of this guide assuming that you know where the locations I mention (along with a couple pictures). My hybrid is currently at 35 combat level and has 50 ranging, 47 magic, 30 attack, 35 strength, and 42 hp.
2-What is a hybrid/Which kind I will be teaching you: Hybrid is a character designed to pk without remaining “pure” to any single stat. One important point is that the HP of your hybrid will be very high mine was 40 at a combat of 30, so your combat lvl will be higher for the lower levels and even out as you grow your ranging, magic, and melee grows. I will be introducing a hybrid with 1 defense and 1 prayer, so obviously there is room for adjustment depending what you enjoy doing. My hybrid has decently high ranging and mage at this time and I am still tweaking melee.
3-Why? Hybrids are fun. They allow you the flexibility to train whichever stat you wish and maintain the relatively low combat and high power stats pures enjoy. Also, in the wildy they are very flexible, being able to switch from ranging to magic or magic to melee with no disadvantage (assuming you have trained him/her equally).
4-Tutorial Island-First of all choose a name that suits you, some people make it a tough sounding name (I’ve seen stuff like str god), I made mine Aoz Ranger because at that time I was in that clan. Go through the cooking and woodcutting portions. I recommend you get the 3 mining and smithing levels available, because it will come in handy later. Next, at the rats train your attack and strength to 3 (to those of you who worry, you cant die on tutorial island). I recommend using the dagger for the most speed. Your sword hits higher and more accurately, but with 1 attack and very little attack bonuses it won’t be helping you very much. Next receive your bow and arrows and drop your arrows, talk to Vanaka and drop your new arrows again, do this about 5 times and pick up your arrows. Now range (again I would recommend that faster hitting method of rapid) the rats until you have 3 ranging. Continue through the island and repeat the drop process with the runes at the last station and mage the chickens until you have 3 magic. Some people recommend ranging the chickens instead of the rats because they are weaker, but what ever
5-Congratulations, you are now on the mainland. Now turn to one of the level one man near you and use your remaining runes, doing the highest level spells possible (weaken???) as many times as possible and then the 15 airs strikes you have available on nearby targets until they are gone. Sell your remaining air runes to a general store or hold on to them, it won’t really matter in the larger picture. The next few steps will be to prepare you for training quick training, getting each of the stats into “ready position.” First go to Varrok and hit the training dummies until you have 8 attack. Now pick up some cash, preferably about 50-200k, depending how well you can stretch your money, most of you in the position of to be making hybrids/pures have “ways” of getting money to a pure, I did mine legally by giving the stuff to a trusted real life friend and having him give it to me (I paid him a few ‘k’ for his time). Pick up a steel weapon to get the two levels to black weaponry along with a black weapon of choice, preferably scimitar or long. Quick train on level 3 giant rats to get 10 attack and that will end your melee portion for now.
5A. Now is the time to get your ranging to 40, along with completing some helpful quests. First, it is shopping time, you will need: 1: 3-5k bronze arrows (irons will do if you want to for some reason), less if you plan to train on accurate and/or pick arrows, which I recommend, due to the amount of 0’s you will be hitting 2: Armor: Leather chaps (1) cowl (1) leather vambraces (1) studded chaps (1) coif (10ish, you will be using these for pking much later) dragon vambraces (2-5 for pking purposes) dragon chaps (2-5 for pking purposes) 3: Oak shortbow (1) 4: Willow shortbow (1) 5: Maple short and long bow (5ish for pking) And go pick up a couple free leather bodies just south of the rune store, the re-spawn decently, making sure to avoid the mugger, he will often be nuisance. Now take 1 of each bow and 1 of each piece of ranging armor (not counting your dragon stuff) and go to the varrok sewers and range lvl 1 rats until 5 ranging, 27 of them will do it. Next kill 96 more for 10 ranging. Then head to the level 6 giant rats and kill 83 for 20 ranging. You can continue training on these (816!) or go to the otherside of the fence and train on the skeletons (283), I personally would recommend the skeletons. Continue to train on skeletons until 40 ranging, this will take the longest, so I recommend switching to rapid fire but continue to pick your arrows after killing. Deposit your bows, arrows, and old ranging armor and wear your new dragon hide.
5B. Next is Melee. After the set up stage you should have ended with 10 attack, 3 strength and now have 40 ranging and about 4ish mage. Go pick up an iron plate, power or strength ammy, mithral and addy scimitar and an iron full helm. Equip your stuff head down to either the Varrok or Lumbridge chicken coops. First get your currently feeble strength from 3 to 10 by killing 82 chickens. Pick up the feathers because it can come in handy to sell for some light cash if you feel guilty with your spendings. Continue killing chickens until 15 strength (105 of them) by now you should be 1-hitting consistently. Now head to the little goblin shack and start kill 70 of the little green weirdos in attack mode. You now have 20 attack. Switch back to strength training and kill 43 of them to get your 20 strength. Whew….this has been quite a long haul and now we can get a little help. Now you can quick do the vampire slayer quest. Use your ranging (1 lobby and 20 steel arrows will MORE than make short work of him) and jump from 20 to 24 attack. Grab you mithral and addy scimitars and head up to the Edgville Monestary. Kill 103 monks to get 30 attack. Switch to strength training and dispose of another 150 monks to get your 30 strength. You are now about 28ish combat in both ranging and melee!!!!!
5C. Lastly is magic. Go complete both the Witches Potion and the Imp Catcher quests, I would recommend working on your strength, but it wont make too much of a difference. Assuming you got to exactly 4 magic with your free runes after tutorial island you should have 11 magic and be extremely close to 12 magic. From here there are many ways to go and the hybrid class allows you to choose either or a little of both, regardless get your mage top, hat, magic, your needed staffs listed in the options below:
a. You can get 4200 body runes and 9200 water runes and an earth staff. From here (pict) you curse and weaken the enemy until 19 magic where you switch over and do ONLY curse spells on the skeletons and ghosts until 47 magic. You can get by with exactly 2454 curse spells, but I suggest the 4200 mention because the odds are that you will splash a lot. b. The other option is to get 40 minds, 40 airs and an earth staff to the same location and get 13 magic. Then bring 5000 minds and 10k!! airs along with a fire staff. Fire strike them about 5000 times (most likely a little less). The exact number of minds needed is 6374 ‘0’ hits or 3759 half hits so I estimated to the middle.
By now you will have 47 magic. I did the curse spell option on my hybrid. It took along time but was much cheaper and keeps your already high hp level a little lower. I understand that some of you (those of you who are financially enabled) can switch to low alc and teleports, eventually super heat and high alc. If you wana spend that kind of money, more power to you, I just wanted to save a quick buck. I want to finaly note here that this is where the 3 smithing will come in handy, because you will sooner be out of super heating to copper bars and make iron ones sooner, so you will need less ores and can sell them for more. I also did the mind rune option a mage pure awhile back, so I know that it will be faster and more expensive. I know that the trapped lesser in the mage tower is credited to being a better mage training area for the fire strike option but I prefer the skeletons because they have a faster re-spawn but to each his own.
6-Final comments-At this point you are leading and magic and to equal out that out I would recommend raising your strength or your ranging. Attack is fine too I guess but people usually prefer hitting high to hitting often, go figure. For melee you can go back to the monks and drop another 151 of them to get 35 strength and an additional 247 of them for 40 strength if you want it. I stopped at 35 because it allows me to hit decent enough. For ranging I recommend at this level the newly opened Stronghold of Security level 27 Minotars. Bring about 3-4k bronze arrows and your ranging armor. Kill 730 of these bad boys, making sure to pick your arrows and the plentiful iron and bronze arrow drops they have. In about an hour you can pick about 100-200 bronze arrows and 400-1k iron arrow drops, which will all help you train in the long run.
At this point I leave you where I am, I know that I will continue using most of them methods described above, specifically the body rune training (I have leftovers) and Ranging location. I will look for a better place to train melee because at this level monks are impractical.
Thank you for taking the time to read my first guide and I hope it helps you
6-Credits: Runehq.com: For the calculators given to figure the amount of spells and enemies I needed to dispose of, which includes: The Magic, Ranging, and Fighting Calculators Runescape.com: For the knowledge base giving the xp for quests. Also their maps and the screen shots I took while playing on this game. Runescape Bits and Bytes: for letting me post my guide
EDIT: the calculator was messed up (goblins were given 12 instead of 5 hp) , i am now switching to a runehq (from rsbandb) and will have the changes made soon, so in the mean time i would recomend fighting cows
