Firemaking Guide

Tye-dye Definition:
:-({|= Firemaking: An almost useless skill only good for skill totaling and lighting fires! (it has more functions on member worlds but that part of the guide will come later after I gather more info)
For those of us who like to lvl completely pointless skills up to insanely high levels just so we can boast to our friends where in the high scores for this pointless skill we are, here is a guide you might enjoy.

 Guide to Firemaking.
Firemaking consists of taking a tinder box (which you can buy at any general store) and a log, using the tinderbox on the log and voila! You have a fire. To lvl it up to an insanely high level....say.... level 70 (my current goal) you need to repeat this process many many many many more times.

To start out with lets examine the process of making a fire (omg I sound like my chemistry professor there). When you use the tinderbox on the log, your character automatically drops the log, then attempts to light the log. Eventually it starts burning and your character automatically steps one tile to the east to get off of the fire (unless there is an obstacle to the east in which case your character will step to the west). Since this is the case, to effectively make large amounts of fires in a short period of time, you need a large open area of ground, near a bank, that runs east to west with no obstructions in the way. Any flowers or tall grass is an obstacle since you can’t light a fire on the flowers or grass. The best place I have found to light fires is Draynor Village. There is an area there just 1 click from the bank where you can light fires in a straight line with no obstructions. In Varrock is another good spot to burn fires also, right below the west bank. North of Falador east bank is a large stretch of ground that is good for fire making also.

Methods of Firemaking
 The main way to lvl firemaking is by cutting logs your self then lighting the logs without depositing the logs in the bank. Good places to do this would be:
1. For lvl 15 and higher the oaks west of Varrock, south of Juliet’s house.
2. For lvl 30 firemaking and higher the Lumbridge willows near the start of the sheep shearer quest.
3. For lvl 60 firemaking and higher the yews behind Varrock palace is a good place, not during the night though because there is many macroers there.

 Another method is to cut logs from trees near a bank, then deposit them in the bank. After you have (scary big word) accumulated a large amount of the logs withdraw 27 at a time and burn them near the bank (don’t forget your tinderbox).
1. From lvl 1 to lvl 15. Cut trees south of Juliet’s house near Varrock. Deposit them in the Varrock west bank. When you have a lot of logs, burn them right next to the bank but not on the flowers near the bank wall.
2. For lvl 15-30 firemaking. The Varrock oaks again, west of Varrock, south of Juliet’s house is really close to the bank and you can cut tons of oaks there really quick. When you have a lot of the oak logs just burn them near the bank again like you did with the normal logs.
3. For lvl 30-59 firemaking. Cut willow logs at Draynor Village. Just south of the bank. Deposit them in the bank. When you have a lot of willows burn them near the bank.
4. For lvl 60+ firemaking you can continue to use willows or you can switch to yew logs. You can cut yew logs east of Draynor Village. Between Lumbridge and Draynor Village are 4 yew trees. Deposit them in the Draynor bank. You can cut yews north of Varrock palace (once again not at night though because there can be up to 30 macroers there at a time). Deposit logs from there in the Varrock west bank.
5. There are two yew trees really close to a bank in Edgeville, but that is usually really crowded so I wouldn’t recommend cutting yews there.
 The fastest method to raise your firemaking would be to buy the logs and burn them close to the bank. This is by far the most expensive way to raise your firemaking.
1. From lvl 15-30, buy oak logs 15-20 gp ea and burn them near the bank you bought them at.
2. From lvl 30-50, buy willow logs for 30-50 gp ea and burn near the bank you bought them at. A good bank to buy willows at is Draynor bank really close to the willows.
3. From lvl 50-60 you can buy maple logs from members for 100 gp ea and burn in Seers Village or Draynor. Or just keep buying willows.
4. For lvl 60+, buy yew logs 250-300 gp ea and burn in the most convenient location.
 The last method of firemaking is rather complicated and requires money, but uses far less money then buying logs and burning them. You need to bring a tinderbox and LOTS of money (maybe 100k-200k gp for lots of levels). Go to a non member’s world in either Rimmington or Lumbridge. Head over the general store in one of those towns. Trade the shopkeeper and look at his wares. Usually there are a couple thousand willow logs for sale there, only about 12 gp ea. Buy as much as you can hold in your inventory then walk out of the store. Walk a few tiles south of the general store. Burn all of the logs then head back into the store and buy some more logs. Keep doing this until you have used up all your money or you have gotten to your desired lvl.

Xp Table*
Log typeLevel to burnXp from log

Norm logany level40 Xp

Oak logLevel 1560 Xp

Willow logLevel 3090 Xp

Maple logLevel 45135 Xp

Yew logLevel 60202.5 Xp

*Xp and level info from Runescape Knowledge Base

Hope you enjoyed the strategy guide. I am working on getting information about member’s strategy for firemaking.

Anymore comments or suggestions? I am working on getting pics of the places that I reccommended you burn logs in. (draynor, varrock falador) Also some pics of the different types of logs near the xp tables.
