Why do mods close and lock stuff?

Hey ppl not being rude, ungrateful, wotever...justsaying i think its a bit unfair that the mods can close or lock a post if they want to...what if people still want to make comments? and how come sometimes when you get an e-mail bout something youre watching when you click on the link it says that it doesnt exist? is that from mods too?

If mods or admins feel like the topic is spam, or it is completed and does not need any replies, they will lock it.
