Why is it, that whenever someone "bumps" and "old" thread, it has to be locked, even if it's a perfectly good discussion.

There are so little topics posted that if something's over 2 weeks, or maybe a month old it's still on the first page.

So what's the point of locking a topic that's a good discussion just because it's "old"?

The majority of the time, people will dig up messages that have been over for quite some time and reply with messages like "Ya, I know. Cool pic" or something lame and empty. Plus, if no one has replied to the thread in two weeks..it's because the discussion is mostly over.

If it was that good it wouldn't of died out 2 weeks ago.

Usually if the post contributes to the discussion, it won't get locked.

This rule is mainly enforced in marketplace when some people just dig up really old threads and post an offer.

Theres not really a point in them deleting the post that bumped the topic then locking it. If they are going to lock it then just leave the post, its less work. Having it locked will not let anyone else post in it, so why delete the post if no one can respond to it?

The thing is, Robbie, most of the things that are bumped are not needed to be discussed at all anymore. The question has already been answered or the author has not paid attenention to the topic at all for the past time being. Usually the topics are bumped by newer members that have not seen the rules yet, and will often post spam to bump it. Thats why they are normally locked, or atleast thats what I take into consideration when reporting an old topic.

Deleting a post also prevents someone from researching something and the same topic comes up again.
