The problem with most of these ideas is they discourage people from registering =\

I did update the registration page, and made it a lot more clear that they have to read the rules and stuff though.

thats what i would have said

just send automatic pm to all new users that sign up reminding them about reading the rules and anything else thats important e.g. podcast, quick links for them to check out different parts of the forum..etc

I think what dknifton2004 is saying is that if we could setup a system that would send all new users a pm like when you use outlook express for the first time or when you sign up for an email service like yahoo or gmail they always give you an introduction email or a welcome message well he's saying if we could send something like that with links to important things on the forums.

I think, is that right?

In my opinion it would be good if you could give them an easy quiz including only 5-10 main questions about rules, questions don't have to be very hard.

I think this will just confuse them and they will think that all we have is the rules thread :P

I think that would be a good one. They do that at a gfx forum I used to use and they kept in order really well. All the pm said was welcome to the forums and it had a bried overview of the rules. If you post the whole set of rules in this message it would be very long and most people would just not read it. But if anything thats the thing to do.

yea i agree it shouldnt be long or u would just look at it and think wtf i aint reading all this...just has to be a quick reminder to read to rules again with a link, and if u have anyquestions pm a moderator.

problem with the pm idea is that some newcomers don't read their pm's. They don't even know that a pm box exists sometimes. I think after regesteration, they should be taken to their pm box with a message saying to read the rules and check your pm's.

Actually, every account in the beggining has set pop-up PM notification as default, doesn't it? So every newbie will pay attention to the fact he has a PM. Pop-ups are not ignorable. :)

Most people have pop-up blockers. I'm fairly sure all major browsers come with pop up blocking by default.

Most new users here that i pm don't even bother reading it -ever-

I don't understand why this has been brought up really. There isn't a behavior problem here a few people that perhaps might need to realize we have a spell check on this site instead of spelling every other word wrong but other than that, there really isn't a huge problem.

If they break the rules that's there problem, if they don't read the rules again there problem, not ours if they don't have the respect to read our rules on there own without someone holding there hand and then follow them then i don't give a dam if they get banned or not.

it is your problem if they dont read the rules -.-

you will be the person that has to sort it out, the more people that read the rules and understand them the less you will have to sort out reports and warning people

It's my problem if they BREAK the rules if they write a pm back saying they didn't know, why should i care? I'm here to help the forums run smoothly not babysit for people that can't be botherd to spend 10 minutes looking over our rules.

Also i don't sort out much really cause there really isn't a huge amount to sort out right now, we've removed most of the bad seeds.
