1. Open tower cover (Don't forget to discharge static and remove power)
2. Locate CD/DVD drive
3. Disconnect cables attached to drive (carefully)
4. Take the drive out
5. Put new drive in
6. Reconnect all cables
7. Close tower cover
8. Reconnect power
9. Turn on
10. Install driver (If Required)

EDIT: w00t! 777th post, JACKPOT!!!!

There will be screws that are on both sides of the CD Drive, you need to take those off. Some cases, you have to take it out via in front of the case, not side.
There is also a small pin you have to set. It's usually beside the power cable.
The directions will be written around it, and read the manual

its a good idea to unplug the power before opening a computer case,

discharge static by touching a steel part of the case.
you will usually need to take the drive out from the front of the case if the front doesnt come off with the rest of the case then there will usually be some tabs that you will need to push in or some screws to take out that will allow you to remove the front cover.

A Kid asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?" and Jesus said. "This much."
And spread his arms out on the cross and died.
If you believe that he did this for you put this in your signature.

Modern machines, you get your CD drive out from the front, older machines from the side. :)

you only need to enter one or two screws when you put the new drive in, saves time, unless you don't have 'shelves on the inside then 1 each side or

1 = screw
l-----------l
1 l..............l1 screw here
l..............l
l..............l = drive
l..............l
1 l..............l1 and here
^ l-----------l ^
l-- same as -----l
