An IP is a string of four numbers up to 255, like this: 1.7.255.149 or something. it basically identifies your computer.

The IP is used as a security feature on runescape and many websites, it normally does not change if it is a cable connection. This is what they'd ban you by. :P

But you don't have to worry about your IP address being given out if it is to a reputable person or organization such as Jagex.

Overall don't worry about it unless its a shady site.

Shane

basically, its set of 4 digits up to 255 which identifies ur internet connection. THis is how people can IP ban from their site, ur specific IP is not allowed in their site. Hackers can also send u viruses through IP adresses too, so watch out.

Ok about the IP thing, I am surprised anyone bothers to ban someone like that now days. But I am not going to get into why, anyone who is a Webmaster, and or programmer would understand why.

I am confused as to why IP was even a question, I didn't see that in my sign up. But then I was not paying much mind to it, lol.

Anyway its all good, no worries.

The Internet Protocol (IP) is the method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet. When you send or receive data (for example, an e-mail note or a Web page), the message gets divided into little chunks called packets. Each of these packets contains both the sender's Internet address and the receiver's address. Any packet is sent first to a gateway computer that understands a small part of the Internet. The gateway computer reads the destination address and forwards the packet to an adjacent gateway that in turn reads the destination address and so forth across the Internet until one gateway recognizes the packet as belonging to a computer within its immediate neighborhood or domain. That gateway then forwards the packet directly to the computer whose address is specified.

Dynamic IP: A dynamic IP address is a number that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its temporary address on the Internet.

Static IP: A static IP address is a number that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet.

This should provide a bit better info... 8)
