Ubisoft will release the next chapter in the Assassin's Creed saga on October 30, 2012, less than a year after the previous entry, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, shipped on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. While details on Assassin's Creed III are scant, Ubisoft says the sequel will be "the biggest launch" in the publisher's history.
Beyond that, we don't know much about the content of Assassin's Creed III. We know it will feature an all-new protagonist, with Ezio Auditore da Firenze taking a much needed break. We know that Ubisoft has been working on the game for three years. And we've heard — though not from Ubisoft directly — that the American Revolution may serve as the historical backdrop for the game.
Ubisoft is smart to get the game out a bit earlier than it normally does, beating the November juggernaut that is Call of Duty to market by a few weeks.
