So on Fallout 3, is there any good way of getting money (or caps) that doesn't take years of trekking and wandering? I have a 70 small guns lvl so some way that includes combat is dandy with me.

Ok here is what you do- I take it you already blew up megaton, so first check for traders outside the ruble, if you didn't already kill them. Kill raiders! Find camps of them. I made 15k caps doing these 2 things. If you don't want to do quests, then go to the museum of American history, and kill all the super mutants outside. Miniguns and ammo and caps city.

To max your caps do what I do-
1) Max your repair and barter skills.
2) Go out and kill a bunch of raiders.
3) Steal their guns.
4) Repair their guns.
5) Sell their guns for lots of money.
6) Repeat the process.

ALSO
Try he lockpick skill- pick locks in many many places.

Read the fallout wiki- http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/wiki/Fallout_3

FIND RAIDER CAMPS-KILL EM ON DIFFICULTY- Very hard- GAIN LOTS OF EXP- STEAL ALL THEIR STUFF- SELL AT RIVET CITY

Rivet city is best trade city. Kill all other traders.

Any other questions ask me. I have the complete guide. Beat it a few times.

The best way is to simply go along through the game without buying too many things. All youhave to do is put a lot of time and effort into the game, and you'll notice your caps rising.

Miniguns in the mall, supermutants who wield them are piece of a cake.
Stock up on them, repair, sell, rince and repeat.

Option 1: Explore, there's always something in the wasteland.
Option 2: lock pick skill and Science skill 70+, Then explore.
Option 3: Quests.
Option 4: What Steven says.
Option 5(mah favorite): Fort independence, where the outcasts are, sign up to their technology recovery team, find enclave power and Tesla armors, and trade the for health packs and 5.56 ammo. You don't have to waste caps on health or ammo, so you should get a lot caps during the gameplay.

Just explore all the areas, do every quest you can, and don't buy much other than the things you need like Rad-Away and StimPaks. Never buy weapons, guns or ammo because they are plentiful in the Wasteland. (Especially ammo if you have the perk that gives more ammo when searching crates and such)

Exept for maybe magnum .44, even with scrounger, you can't find enough :/

That is true, I always seemed to only have about 15-20 rounds of .44 for my Lincoln Repeater at a time where as I would have over 1,000 micro-fusion cells.

Thanks everyone for the help. I've been training my repair straight from the start of my new character (old lvl 11 got deleted by accident by my brother >,>) and im already lvl 5 with about 50 or so repair and it helps soooo much. Okay for any other fallout 3 players who may want some other good ways of making money this is what I've gathered..
  • First off, pick up anything that weighs nothing, and as a general rule, anything with a weight-value ratio of 1:10 or more.
  • Talk to Walter at the water processing plant in Megaton and he'll tell you he needs someone to fix the pipes. You need 30 repair. Go around and the 3 leaking pipes in Megaton and talk to him again to receive 100 caps. But even better than this, you can now sell scrap metal to him for 10 caps each. Scrap metal only weighs 1!
  • If you find pre-war books anywhere, stock up on them because near the bottom of the map south of The Citadel there is the Arlington Library where there is a scribe who will buy them from you for 100 caps each! Definitely worth keeping them to sell to her. Also there are a few around in the Library itself so search around there.
  • The repair skill helps a ton, as soon as you level up get it up as much as possible along with the barter skill. Go out killing raiders, super-mutants and anything else that drops armour and weapons then repair them and sell to Moira in the Megaton Craterside Supply shop, or in the Rivet City market. There are also plenty of other traveling merchants to sell to as well, and with a higher barter skill you can sell them for more.
  • Packets and cartons of cigarettes are worth picking up to collect and sell S
  • Scrap metal (as I've mentioned) to sell to Walter in Megaton
  • Sell bloodpacks to Vance after the Blood Ties quest
  • If you see nuka-cola vending machines take all of the bottles as you can sell them for a fair amount and also take Nuka-cola Quantums because you can sell them to Sierra or Ronald in Girdershade.
  • Whenever you see fragmines on the ground, get into sneak, disarm them and pick them up to sell.

I'll add a few more later.

I got 100 lockpicking and that served me well. If your character is evil though just take whatever you want
