Reading does involve written words, of course. But you're not listening to a random slew of words, unless you got a cheap knockoff. You got the entire book, all being read from written words.
If anyone would care to look around on the Internet and at least entertain what I believe to be a viable alternative to sitting down and using your eyes, take a look at this
New York Times article from 2005. If you post "Tl;Dr", you might want to check out the narration function of most computers.
Again, I'm not saying it's the exact same thing as reading, though in the end you should have had the same experience (Plus or minus a few details, depending on your reading capabilities and comprehension). Getting through a book by a different than traditional meathod doesn't change the end result. The book as been read (physically by you, or by the speaker) and the words should have been comprehended.
