So, after looking at laptops, I decided to just build another computer since I couldn't get the power I wanted in a laptop for the price of a desktop. I ordered most of the parts I need, just didnt find a Monitor or GPU I wanted yet. I am looking at a 22" HD ASUS monitor, and still don't know about the GPU yet.

Well here are the parts, I paid a total of 489.99 total with shipping. (I dont pay tax since I live in Missouri)

CPU
Motherboard
RAM
Hard Drive (apparently sold out now, but I got it for 39.99
Power Supply
Case (came with the power supply above)
DVD ROM

If any of you guys has a good GPU suggestion, feel free to let me know. I am wanting one under 150 if possible, with a HDMI port.

but then it wouldn't be future proof.

the parts look great. although i must say that, i like having intel rather than AMD. spend 20 bucks more on newegg for an i5 or maybe i7 for a little more. good build. and i swear

23 inch monitor is a god send. or double 19 monitors. being able to play RS and watch a movie with a reasonable screen size is awesome.

On a desktop, having AMD is fine. Pricewise it's usually better, and upgradeability is great. AMD rarely changes sockets, so if he felt like it he could currently go as high as the top of the line AMD 6 core processor.

On that note, check out PC Perspective's Hardware Leaderboard, specifically the budget system. They try to get the best performance for ~$500, but also have more expensive builds for a midrange system for ~$900, a high end system for double that, and a dream system for just over $3000.

At any rate, they have a $200 card in the Midrange system, and a $86 card in the budget system, though they do mention a great GDDR5 based card for ~$125.

My CPU runs same speeds as the lower end i7 and it is faster than the i5's

Dunno what you'll be doing, but just saying, another $40 and you can get the low end model of the 6 core version...

That being said, with the system you're setting up, you're going to be drawing close to your PSU's limit. And I dunno if that's a great brand, but don't skimp out on a cheap PSU if you're going to want a system to last.

Agree, i thought it was a much better one when I bought the thing. I have it in, and it seems to be running fine, but after I buy a new monitor I am going to buy a new PSU

I'm extremely envious of your new computer. I bought my computer from Best Buy for about $600 alittle over two years years ago. 2GB of RAM and 160 GB Hard drive. 2.2 GHz AMD Turion 64 x2 processor. All of your computer specs blow my computer apart. And you paid less. Maybe when it's time for me to get a new computer I'll just build one. :3

It is usually better to build one yourself, but you can't compare prices from 2 years ago. Prices on hardware drop fast as newer and better stuff comes out :P
