What is your position on jailbreaking? Why?

I've owned an iPhone for about two years now and always debated to JB or not. My first JB was on my iPhone 3g and wasn't to reliable so I restored it back. I now have a 32G 3Gs which I love, but I'm really missing the lack of customization and better SMS support. I'm running 3.1.3 and have the new baseband so I can't JB currently but I should be able to soon when Geohot or the Devteam releases there crack.

Remember that jailbreaking is technically illegal. So that means no links to resources here.

If you're looking for customization, get the Xperia X10. I hate to admit it but its like an open source iPhone which is uber customizable and I love it, chicks dig it HAHA :)

Click for Uber powerful Android phone. (Y)

Jailbreaking is not illegal. However, posting links to pre-cracked files is illegal.

That being said, I've got a jailbroken iPod touch 1st gen, and the jailbreak was great. Works fine, I don't have stability issues, and I have soo many more options for custimizibility, I don't know why anyone would keep a standard iPod. iPhones are a bit different, due to the baseband, though if you can keep everything working correctly, it might be worth jailbreaking for the extra features.

I really don't have a problem jailbreaking an iPod as it's a non-essential device that could fail, and nothing would be too wrong. However, if your phone starts acting up in an emergency, that might be a reason against jailbreaking.

Yeah, messing with the baseband is my main concern. Im on ATT so I'm not looking to unlock it or anything. But just the thought of possibly losing my service is scary.
But if something ever did happen I can always restore. :)

I'm very cautious with jailbreaking, when i jailbroke my iPod Touch 2g running 2.2.1 it was completely unresponsive twice, I plugged it in to charge it and the charging screen didn't come on and it wasn't detected on my laptop either. I waited an hour or two and then it charged normally, very strange.
