I have one computer with two hard drives. One is my XP one, and the one I'm typing this from. The second one is not connected to the PSU but is fully functional and more than large enough to hold the OS.

I'm just wondering if I install Win7 to the second HDD will the win7 RC **** up my hardware in a way that I cant boot XP from my first hard disk?

No, it won't. Worst case you'll destroy your MBR which is fixable by a few commands.

Edit/Repost: So I burned the ISO with Imgburn and verified it, but when I go to boot from it the drive just makes a few sounds, decides that the DVD is broken, and boots my HD, which has nothing on it.

I tried in a different drive and also burned another DVD. It failed too.

I guess I'll wait until October 22...

Try putting it on a flash drive and installing it that way. I've got my latest build on a flash drive, saves the trouble of dealing with dvd at all.

That won't work with me because I don't have a large enough flash drive, and I wouldn't be able to access command prompt because I will be disconnecting my main HDD from power and data.

I guess I can try again with a fresh download and a different burning program.

Can you boot anything else with the drive? Don't bother re-downloading and burning if you can't even boot from the DVD drive.

Also, if you have an external HDD you could use that as well.. Even a partition on your HDD I guess. If you were comfortable enough, you could partition out a ~3gb chunk and put the files there for the install, then remove the partition when you were done.

I got everything to work now.

Win7's paint is a lot more advanced-looking...

And yes, the first thing I did was install Firefox! And I didn't have to open IE for it! I ran the installer off a flash drive.
