Windows Vista SP2 - Final Release

Vista SP2 is officially out as of Tuesday, so unless you want to wait till June when it will begin to show up in the Automatic Update center, head over to Technet and download today =D. Just note that you'll need SP1 installed if you don't already (and shame if you don't, you're missing out on a greatly improved OS).

Looks like it will provide better power usage, and a few performance tweaks. If you're a fan of the exFAT file system, you're now in luck. Other features added include Blu-ray burning capabilities, new wireless technology, wireless improvement out of Sleep mode, RSS sidebar gadget improvement, Windows Search 4, and overall Sidebar optimization.

I'm downloading now, and I'll probably pass the file off to my Dad who will need to upgrade as well. With the download you can get from Technet, you'll be getting the full 5 language installation pack. If you know anyone else with Vista, pass it to them after.. No sense downloading a 350mb file if you could wait till next month when it could be a bit less.

EDIT - Installed, and it seems to have provided quite a nice post-boot performance boost

I just got prompted to download it in automatic updates yesterday. Was a little over 500MB.

yea its in automatic updates already. My computer uploaded it but haven't gotten around to install it till now. on the technet it doesnt look like it has 32 bit anyway. unless im misinterpretting x64 and think the other one was x84.

The standalone for x86 is just over 350mb, and the standalone for x64 is a bit over 570mb.

x86 is 32 bit and x64 is 64 bit.

So it isn't in the windows update yet? Cause i just checked windows update and there was a Service Pack 2 for Microsoft office. It was only a few mb. Then i just checked again and there is an "Update for Windows Vista (KB955430)" that is 4.1mb. Is that it?

No. SP2 for Office is not the same as SP2 for Vista. Not sure what the other one was, but it's not the Service Pack. Other people are getting it through Windows Update, but if you aren't you can try to download the standalone installer if you wish.

If you think you already have SP2, type 'winver' in the Run command. If you've got SP2, it'll show there.

The article I read said it was going to be out in June, but Tal and a few others said they already got it through Automatic Update. Any time now I guess.

I don't know why it is out through Automatic Update though, usually Microsoft gives IT professionals time to apply the 'don't download' patch till they can figure out if everything is compatible.

dont feel a difference. i do have sp2 (did the run command and stuff) but idk. feels the same.

Yeah, it just came in yesterday through Automatic Updates for me. Downloading now; I'll see how it works later.

Edit: I've updated it now. No noticeable differences, though I haven't really been looking for them.
