Right now, I'm running a home-built XP (no, never will use a mac) and I'm using a blank disc to put random audio onto to free up some space.

If its random then just delete it. Try shutting your PC down and turning it back on. Sounds like to me you have a trojan or your OS needs to be reformatted. Run a virus scan and see what it comes up with. How old is your pc? The media disc may be to new for your PC.

Ya, some moron broke into the shop when this was being made and stripped it of a lot of the things I need (the main ones being my audio and graphics cards), I've tried rebooting before and it still won't read. It's about 5 years old (the computer) and the discs are about 3, but I never had a problem with older desktops. Virus scans also came up with nothing.

Your CD reader/writer might be busted or dirty.
A lens cleaner might be worth trying. http://www.cdfixit.com/laser_lens_cleaner.htm
You can buy them at Staples, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, ect.

In the meantime, you can use a USB hard drive/ portable flash drive to transfer your data.
