Do you need to copy actual DVDs, or just put data on them?

If you want to copy DVDs, try out Handbrake (free, of course ) Not sure if it can go around the protection, but a bit of research should be able to help you there, if that's what you're trying to do.

If you just need to put data on the DVDs, I think anything native with the OS should work..Again, haven't tried this either.

I have Alcohol 120%.

Also, search for InfraRecorder, it's pretty awesome.

And Daemon Tools for a virtual CD/DVD ROM. You mount the .mds file, which you make with Alcohol.

Went with a different combo. Downloaded DVD Shrink 3.2, which shrinks/compresses the files on the DVD movie into an ISO disk image on your hard drive. Afterwards I use DVD Decrypter to burn that ISO disk image files onto a blank DVD disk. So far it works great; burned and backed up two DVDs.
