I have an iPhone. I used to love it before I came to my senses and realized "Hey, this phone is a locked down piece of ****!" I'm sure several of you remember my post here a while back, and I have almost completely reversed my position.
If you are thinking of buying an iPhone, remember what Admiral Ackbar said...
I would love to get rid of mine, but seeing as I have $300+ in DRM'd music/apps, I can't do much.
And to the person who is going to go off on me because I buy my music- I buy my music, you acquire yours. We do things differently, get over it. Thanks.
People who own an iPhone-Do you agree with me? Why or why not? People who own another smartphone-What do you think? Everyone else-What do you think of smartphones in general?

Why is it being locked down a problem? What are you wanting to do with it that you can't?
Personally I see no problem with the locked down environment. A smartphone/iOS device isn't supposed to be a full laptop/desktop replacement. When it comes down to it at the end of the day a smartphone OS will be a smartphone OS. I don't really see how being locked down is a limitation, maybe to developers, but not end users.

I had my first look at the iPhone 4 today, I must say it it a pretty **** sweet phone. Honestly I didn't see what was to hate besides the skin blocking signal crisis.

With other phone OS coming out that are very customizable and you are freely to download apps the way you want... a question arises. Why would you want a phone that is?
All of the apps that you can download (Non-jailbroken) have to be approved by Apple. Why would you not want to download third party apps? Just gives you more freedom. And besides, smartphones are becoming more and more like computers every update!
Applications aside, why would you buy DRM music at this point?
Years ago it wasn't a contest. Now with all of the choices, iPhone isn't your only choice for a powerful smartphone.
As Leo Laporte is pointing out, choose the carrier, then choose the phone. If AT&T (or any other particular provider) sucks where you are, or the plans cost too much, change. Then get the phone.
Carrier's not always my first choice. If I need a new smartphone, first I'd choose the OS. You're probably thinking why? Well, now that Oses are becoming more and more...ermm.."together", it's easier to know what you want and need in a phone.
Hell, I'll buy a phone no contract (and unlock it if necessary) but anything but iOS and WebOS is fine for me.
And something powerful's coming out this holiday season too. Not Windows Phone 7 (I'll see how THAT turns out), but Android 3.0. It's said to have a requirement of 512 MB RAM and 1 GHz processor as minimum.
Writing a new sentence in your first post then quoting it is odd.
Anyhow, DRM all but completely gone in the industry today; this is why I wonder why the hell you buy DRM music. I couldn't care less where it's from, be it iTunes, Amazon, or elsewhere. Why pay the same amount of money for a song with DRM and be locked into a particular system/device when you can either go elsewhere or just plain get the normal non-DRM music?
If all of your music is from iTunes' pre-nonDRM days pay the one time fee to get all of your music in the higher quality non DRM version. You'll thank me if you do change devices in the future.

What do you mean? I didn't change my first post...?

What else am I supposed to do when I get $150 in iTunes gift cards for Christmas? I don't want most of the apps on the store, but the ones I do want are actually useful and not very numerous.
I've gotten a few songs from the iTunes Plus part but I dislike having to pay to get something I already bought. I suppose in the end it would be worth it if I decided to change.
