Every time I start up my computer I have to press F1 to continue start up. I'm getting rather tired of this and would like to fix this.

Anyone willing to help me figure out what is wrong or suggest possible fixes?

Thanks

What are you pressing F1 for? On the screen it should tell you what F1 actually does.

All I get is this
Quote:
press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup.

Does it matter if I added the old hard drive to this computer. I only added it and kept the one that came with this tower the same. So now I not only have a C & D drive but an F drive as well.

Sounds like something with your BIOS have you recently updated it?

No, but if I need to I will. I just don't know what to change or how to update it.

I'm assuming you only have the one operating system installed?

Try going into the BIOS settings and resetting them to their defaults.

How do I find out what their default settings were?

I can't normally, but there will always be an option to have the defaults set for you.

I had to do something similar, though it may have been F2. Either way, it was caused by me incorrectly installing a second operating system on my desktop. If you're in Windows, there should be an option to check the boot file by running msconfig. If it finds any errors (missing operating systems, for example) it can correct them, and hopefully fix your problem.

Sounds like your CMOS battery is basically dead. You should see a button cell on your motherboard.. Just get that replaced, and it'll probably be fixed.

That happened to me and I replaced the battery and it worked so that is your best bet.

Hmm, thanks. It seems like I just replaced it within the last six months, but then again I can't remember if it was this tower or another tower ... I'll give it a try and let you all know how it pans out. :)

You could have replaced it quite recently, but it could have happened that the battery you put in was a dud, or that somewhere in your system there is a short circuit that drains power.
