To get Firefox's inline spell checker working you just have to download a dictionary from the Addons website.
Safari is a good alternative to Internet Explorer, but really nothing beats Firefox. :D

If you like Safari, I suggest trying out the new Google Chrome. It uses the same rendering engine so it loads everything at light speed, and the browser itself is super-streamlined too (far less clunky than Apple's sad excuse for an interface). All it's missing is Firefox's extendability.

Safari is definitely not for typical Windows users. You'll have no support for any sites requiring certain browsers, and you'd be better off using Chrome for the same effects.

Firefox *should* have the spellchecker built in and functioning the entire time, without any additional setup required. Not sure what you're referencing, Chief, but I have never downloaded any dictionary for Firefox to use.

If you'd like to read up on browser comparisons, or just Chrome, check out my Informer profile.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's supposed to work from the beginning without any additional setup. I just remember going 'wut, firefox has no spell check' back in the day, and people going 'yes it does noob', so I downloaded a dictionary and suddenly it started working. Maybe I just set it up minimally to begin with.

Yeah it does work like this. I just downloaded a British English dictionary (hah, should've done that long ago) and it's not correcting me for spelling words with S's instead of Z's anymore. Yay.
