Actually, it is not against the rules. He could be giving the gift for many reasons. Think about it this way; he thinks your nice and gives you a gift.

In other words hes trying to make a trade by skipping rules... its not hard to replace "trade" with "gift" look at the post it says basically u give me a gift i give u a gift = i get something u get something but no its not a trade its a "gift" thats like exchanging christmas presents... Gift in his post is a sorry exuse for trade. No offense just gift?
