As some of you may see that we had a new guy register and start posting and has received a verbal warning from brad. I know the rule is two weeks but if it adds to the topic should it still be locked. Is two weeks a little short for a topic to be considered dead?

If people are allowed to go back and post in any old topic they like it would cause havoc on the forums. Our current rules are good and don't need to be changed. People just need to learn to read the rules and their PMS.

The current situation sort of proves it, If we allowed people to post in any topic no matter how old you'd get people just going back through the pages of threads and just posting on a ton of old topics, whether it adds to the discussion or not is irrelevant.

He's right.

If the topic hasn't been replied to in 2 weeks, it clearly shows no one is interested in it anymore.

I don't know, typically after two weeks the regulars of the forum don't wish to post in the topic anymore. But in two weeks there aren't many topics made which spark discussion.

If something "needs" to be done, which I'm not saying there is, it might be worth saying that any posts on the first page of that forum can be posted in, excluding the marketplace.

I just think new users aren't reading the rules properly. I'm not sure if that's a problem with how they're written or how the new users' reading abilities are.

People. Dont. Read. Rules.

Normally, anyway. People dont read rules, because people cant be bothered to read them, and with the rules at such an incredible length it only makes it less likely that they will.

Every new user should be sent a pm one day after joining with a little summary of the rules, particularly pointing at posting in dead threads. Maybe some friendly advice could be in there as well.

However, there is something i'd like to say:

Posting in dead threads should be allowed within four weeks, not 2 weeks, only if the poster provides new information which can be discussed. For example, if the discussion is about a future runescape update, then 2 weeks passes, and the update comes out, and people talk about it then, that should be allowed. However if someone just makes a small comment without any new information or discussion value, it could be locked.

Make a new topic if the information is that significant. It's easier.

There's a problem with that too. Some new users don't read pms either.

Why the hell should we hold there hands? Read your dam PMs and read the bloody rules or get banned.

Don't see why we should ever have to put up with lazy people, if they can't do basic things like that then they'll get banned for having a sig to big or some other retarded easily fixed thing.

I think that the way it currently is is fine. If no one posts anything on a topic for two weeks, then it is probably safe to say they are done talking about it.

People should just take the time to read the rules before they start posting. It doesn't take that long.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

Could you make a script that re-directs you to your newest unread PM if you haven't read it within two weeks of recieving it?

That might help a little. But like Creepy said if they can't take the time to read the rules (Which are perfectly understandable) and they won't check their PMs then they'll just get banned eventually.

Like mike said, it would just be much easier to make a new thread anyways, because in most sections, after 2 weeks, its not on the 1st page of the topics anyways, haha. Theres no point changing the rules to just make a slight convience because people dont read the rules
