Do we relay need recruitment threads from Fri Oct 08, 2004? Simply, NO. They take space that could be used to make sensible topics. Maybe 1ce a month or so?

kk Edit: I'm not saying that i want it to be anti-bump. I'm concerned about the number of topics that are more than 1 year old could be lagging the server, taking to much file space, and cosing Shane to much money. Recruitment posts don't count towards the total so I see it as a no-lose situation. Most of those topics are started by Bronze members witch have zero posts anyway.

I don't think auto prune is needed anywhere but sandbox. And only there cause we spam, a lot.

You can't auto prune clan recruitment, topics may be old but they may also still be in use.

Pruning the Marketplace makes sense. Then new people don't have to say "I'll buy it" on something the seller posted 5 months ago.

Most people aren't silly enough to think that after 5 months a person is still selling the same thing. :\

However, you still see it happening. I think auto pruning would be an okay idea, but not necessarily required.

People also bump up old topics in other areas, like RS General, or Graphics Trader, yet we don't need auto pruning there. Why? Because it doesn't happen that often :)

Well someone might go reading the topics in the RuneScape General area because they find them interesting. (At least I do.) I don't think anyone wants to see what sales everyone has made. (At least I don't.)

Well in Recruitment and the marketplace your posts don't count towards your total (I think). But In RS General they do.

It's not going to make a major difference either way, unless you count the coding, and I'm not entirely sure what that consists of, but logically it'd be a waste of time. Sure, every now and then someone does bump up an old topic, a moderator comes along, and locks it. Simple as that. If you wish to argue that moderators shouldn't have to do that - then you should realise that comes with the moderator position.

If it did happen, it would probably save about 10 seconds of a moderators time, for every rare bump there is, and would waste however long it takes to code things.

Since it's not likely to make a difference at all, I disagree with the idea.

Marketplace does have post count, part of the reason we don't want to delete post.

Think of it this way, if all those old topics are deleted, our forum would basically have not much over 400 threads.

In regards to your edit, the posts are stored in the database which is stored on the hard drive. Last time I looked the forums database was taking up ~230MB of disk space. The server has a 160GB drive in it.

I don't think we'll be turning on pruning in the market place.

Thanks for the concern though.

Shane

I would have to agree that pruning could be used in the Market place. everywhere else, no.

Actually if your concerned about server lag then the auto prune would lag the server more than the topics staying there, when the prune takes place.

We probably dont need this.

A Kid asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?" and Jesus said. "This much."
And spread his arms out on the cross and died.
