It's not that they're getting emails from people, it's that the login server for the site is sending them messages telling them that someone had attempted to access their account and their technique of plugging in random passwords did not work[-X

We've gotten some emails from angry people about us "spamming" their email with these notices. One person got over 50 emails (over 250 account login attempts) and they only have 1 post on the site.

It's definately bots doing this because they are just going after random accounts and after 5 attempts they can't attempt for another 15 minutes.

We have been blocking the IPs, don't know how long they will continue. As far as I can tell they havn't accomplished anything. They havn't even gone after any of the admins accounts where they could cause real damage to the forums.

We could disable the emailing but then you guys wouldn't know when someone is attempting to hack your account.
