Name Changes, Please Read.

Hello everyone,

We are now taking an official stance on name changes. From this point onwards name changes that involve a complete change will not be allowed.

There is however an exception, if you have recently quit Runsecape and want your name changed to something else like your real life name, this is fine. Just don't go quit Runescape so you can have your name changed

Changes such as changing the case of a (few) letter(s) or adding/removing numbers from the end of your name may still be done on a case by case basis.

i know i have no say in this but should you allow one name change like i did, i quit runescape so i went from punisher1288 to Kyle...i can unstand going from on runescape name to another but from a rs name to a real life name?

OK, but why? I can see little cause for confusion as long as the person in question keeps a reminder in the Signature for a duration, as well as easy recognition from there Avatar, Profile, Rank and Signature. Alot of people would want to change there name if they quit (to there real name). Since there RuneScape name would have no real use.

Although Names Changes are altogether useless past identification, I would have changed my name to Matt if Poison hadn't beaten me to it. I think we have a right to change our names.

I only wanted to change my name because I thought your RSN was required to join when I first signed up.. But if complete name changes are no longer allowed, can I request the '824' be removed from my name?

Based on what was said here and after talking with Mike, we are going to only allow them if you have quit Runescape. As this point was brought up by two people here.

The small number changes would still be allowed as mentioned above.

Ok, theres a reason, for those wondering why? The reason is this:
If the admins let everyone who wanted to change their name, then people would change their names weekly, ect. There would be alot of work for the admins, plus mistaken identies. Think of how many rune or addy - members. If one changed thier names, then all would, and people would be mistaken. COming from personal experience: We had a member on another forums I got to change thier name. Everytime he posted in a section that was designated "clan" only, he was warned, ect. People didn't reconise him. Theres a reason for everything. Remember the rules: Dont question an admin/moderator/site owner.

Question, what keeps people from lying and saying they quit Runescape just to have their name changed? There really is no way to prove they did or didn't quit..

We are going to have to go on the word of people. It would not be worth all the time needed to investigate each case by watching the persons highscores for a week just to see if they had indeed quit.

There is only one change, also they are still required to have it in their signature that it has changed.

You should have a week every 6 months where you allow name changes then and only then, and the changes get written in a sticky, also have them put the change in their sig for the next 6 months with a link to the sticky. They also could have to stick with their current avatar and signature for 1 month.

Edit... If it is possible, there could be a section under "Location" that shows any previous names you were known by.

Before Shane even posted this topic, people (well, most known people at least, though inactive members really wouldn't have reason to change their names) didn't change their names weekly.

Bringing this up probably did more harm than good, but whatever, doesn't effect me at all. Even after I quit RS, this name will stick with me lol.

I am glad name changed have been stopped. It really makes it harder to spot people if they keep on changing there name, even if it is after a couple of months.
