he said hes only getting enough to use protect item prayer, which comes at level 25... 25 prayer is ~~ 7850 exp. from level 1, thats 1742 normal bones, 523 big bones, or 110 dragon bones... but nobody notices that there are quests that give prayer exp that also can be very valuable... particularily the priest in peril quest, which lets you get into mortania in the first place... without doing priest in peril, you can't start ghosts ahoy, and can't use the ectofunctus.
the quest priest in peril has no requirements except to beat a level 30 monster, and do a lot of walking, and gives 1406 prayer experience.
that leaves about 6440 exp left to get. where can you get that? lets look to more quests ^_^
that noobish little quest the restless ghost gives a nice 1125 prayer exp, and ghosts ahoy gives 2400 prayer. that knocks the exp to go down to 2911 exp left. note that ghosts ahoy also gives you that marvelous one click teleport, the ectophial, which is very usefull, especially in pking or wilderness running.
so, just under 3k prayer exp left eh? lets recalculate that. thats 647 normal bones, 194 big bones, or 41 dragon bones.
or, should you chose to use that fancy new ectofunctus, its only 49 big bones, or 11 dragon bones ^_^ there, wasn't that simple?
