For non-members, you're outta luck. If you had 68 smithing, you could buy all the coal needed to make mith bars, mine the mith and make mith platebodies and then high alch them to even out. Better just to turn member and fletch.
Your numbers are a little off. First thing in f2p smithing you can break even on from smithing appears to be addy kite which you can sell for about 2k more than it costs to make. Mith plate might work...but most people aren't going to make all those bars especially at only five a time, or one mith plate at a time. Plus counting the nat it would take to cast he high alch...your probably still going to be losing a little bit of money...maybe 3 cents on the dollar. I'd get up to 82 if I were a f2p (which I am and that is what I am doing) and then just make addy kites and sell them until 88 and then make addy plate then you can high alch that.
My math: High alch Mith Platebody: 3300 approx.
coal = 150 each----- 150*4*5--> 150*20 = 3000 per mith plate in coal
mine the mith so no cost
buy nats for 300 each
300 (nats) + 3000 (coal) = 3300 which is refundable via high alch (use fire staff). You're breaking even like this.
If you don't feel like doing 5 mith at a time in Falador, try Al Kharid or if you're member, Port Phantasym where the furnace is right in front of the bank. I'm not saying i suggest that people do this but if you want to get good smithing training without straining a budget then this is the way to go.
