“We've really achieved the ideal of what I wanted Microsoft to become.”
-Bill Gates, June 2008

Bill Gates, he is among the most successful men in America, not to mention the richest. He has been the leading name in computer operation software, and innovation to have the next big idea. Gates has been working hard on his idea of an elite operation system for many years, and has been intrigued by computers since he was a child.
Gates, the creator of the multi-billion dollar American company Microsoft, maker of the famous Windows Operating Systems. Windows is the number one seller of operating systems in the world. Operating Systems is the thing that tell you hardware what to do in a computer. It is saved to the boot section of your hardware, and after your computer boots up from RAM, the OS takes over your computer and runs all the hardware in it. Windows got its name from the icons on your computer. “Back in the day” computers were all in DOS, which is a text based program, you had to manual type in all information, and the screen was black and white, with only symbols. Windows is was the first OS to majority produce a GUI (graphical user interface) This I feel was the key selling point in the Windows series. Since now not only computer geeks have to use computers, a every day user can now use a computer with ease. That was Gates dream, to have a OS that the world can use. Though many criticize Windows for having unstable OS and more prone to virus’s then thee leading competition Apple’s Macintosh X series, people don’t understand how much Windows operating systems are attacked. Why would a virus script writer make a virus for a Mac when the majority of users are on Windows machines? Well, Gates have been successful in creating a world wide operating system that is the number one name in computer OS.
William Henry Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle Washington to a very wealthy family. Gates went to a elite grade school called Lakeside. As a child he and a few other students took an immense liking to computers. They often exploited bugs in the OS at Lakeside to gain access to longer computer time. They were caught and all the boys were expelled from lakeside for a period of time. Later on Gates offered to help the school, and find bugs in the OS for them. Bill graduated from Lakeside with a astonishing 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT and moved on to Harvard University. At Harvard Gates met of the most important people he would meet in his life, his to be business partner Steve Ballmer. Gates would eventually appoint Ballmer to be CEO of Microsoft. Gates left Harvord his senior year to pursue Microsoft. His first big break was when IBM wanted gates to create a OS for there new line of computers. Gates declined twice, referring them to people he felt was more qualified than he was. Gates eventually have into IBM and created MS-DOS which was the outstanding break threw in computing worldwide and is still commonly used today to fix computers. IBM bought MS-DOS for a one time deal of $80,000, but Gates insisted that Microsoft keep the copyrights to MS-DOS which was the smartest thing Gates could do! In November 20, 1985 Microsoft released the first retail Microsoft OS, but he did not end his partnership with IBM yet. Gates made IBM a OS called OS/2 which was not as successful as Windows. In May 16, 1991 Microsoft terminated there partnership with IBM to focus on there efforts on the new Windows NT Kernel.
Gates has always had a brilliant attitude towards life and his company. He has been known to only want to focus on what he thinks is right, and is not afraid to tell you if he thinks your ideas are stupid and pointless. But to be honest I think I would listen to this man is he though my computer ideas were stupid. He is the third richest man in the world for a reason, and in my opinion the most powerful. His computer programming skills are insane, and his ideas are what make this man different from all the other business men that are out there. He has so many ideas, and he strives to get them achieved no matter what. Gates motivation for his business was to make an operating system that the world could use, which I think he was archived famously! His passion what he does has kept his motivations good, and solid all these years.
Microsoft has been giving people’s wants and needs with computers for over a decade. I feel that the computer is a need in this day of age, rather then a want. From a major part of the business world, to paying your bills from your house, and balancing a check book, a computer is needed. It is hard to get this accomplished today without a computer with high-speed internet! Microsoft does not have a lot of competition, there biggest rival, Apple’s Mac OS X is gaining ground since the release of the Windows Vista in early 2007, which skeptics have views as another Windows ME, which was a disastrous OS. Windows is still the major OS manufactory so I don’t see them really having competition right now. With Apple moving into using the Intel CPU and chip set two years ago, maybe in eh future the competitions between these two manufacturers will be closer. Apple is moving to having more software available, since now and in the past Windows has had the majority of games and software. Blizzard, the largest producer of computer video games is one of the few who makes all there games compatible with Windows and Mac. Windows make there profit from being the number one seller of OS in the world! It’s no just the US who is buying Windows it is sold worldwide. A reason why they make such a big profit is that the material for a CD is so cheap. Windows Vista is around a $100.00 USD right now, well think about it. It cost like 10 cents to make a CD, so all the rest is profit. Also Windows is available to download off the internet which does not require material to make at all! Microsoft also has many deal with major computer retailers like HP which is the largest manufacture of computers in eh world, and with the second largest Dell.
Gates is so successful because he lives his life at the fullest. Gates has had his vision for Microsoft since his early teens, to have a OS that can be recognized worldwide, and be used everywhere. His work ethic is what makes his successful! He doesn’t think “Oh I cant do it!” bla bla bla . Gates knows what he wants in Microsoft and he will not stop until he gets what he wants done. Computers are also Bill Gates passion in life, and it’s what he loves doing. You always do better at what you like, instead of working for something that you don’t like or disagree with. Gates is also a genius, scoring an almost perfect score on the SAT, so his genuineness helps incredible in the computer world, and business ethics.
