Stagehouse Canyon Road. (note: this is actually based on a real hiking trip I took in fifth grade, however to make a story I added on. nobody was hurt in the real hike. at all you stalkers, I changed names around. Stagehouse Canyon Road is fictional, but it's based on a real canyon road about 1/5 of a mile away from an elementary school near me. yes, we did stampede in that hike too

, and a kid named Speed did start that.)
Chapter 1:
The sun was shining. John looked around the group of eager fifth-graders, searching out his friend, Trent. He spotted Trent over by a tree, resting. Today was the day he had been waiting for: One of the last days of school, the hike up Stagehouse Canyon Road. They had been going for about three miles. Suddenly, a boy named Speed stuck his hand out. All the fifth graders stayed behind Speed. Then he whispered, "Go!" The students raced down the road until they got to Mrs. Hanson, who was leading the line. John saw Trent at the back of the stampede, still running long after everyone had stopped. Trent finally caught up to him. They began to talk about baseball, and soon they found themselves near Mrs. Berg at the end of the line. Mrs. Hanson stopped, and the fifth-graders knew that they would get to rest. Some kids sat on the ground and chatted some more. Speed began to throw pinecones around until Mrs. Hanson told him to stop. Then, he threw them over the side of the road, snapping a few branches off of pine trees. John and Trent sat on a rock and ate strawberry yogurt granola bars. Mrs. Hanson waved her hand, indicating to them that they should go on. The boys followed her. Then, Trent said, "Crap, I forgot my granola bar wrapper back there. I'll go back and get it." He told Mrs. Berg so, in different words, and she let him go back to the rock. The hike continued. John looked at the massive cliff faces of Stagehouse Canyon, and looked over to tell Trent about a cave he had seen. He didn't know where Trent had gone, as he was no longer in the group! John looked around for his friend, didn't find him, and ran back to Mrs. Berg. She said maybe Trent got lost, and told John to go back to the rock and try to find him. John ran the whole way back to the rock. Sitting on the rock was a wrapper for a strawberry yogurt granola bar. Trent was nowhere to be found.
