I tried to 2009 beta but didn't like it after trying some things. So I uninstalled it and tried to install older version. It did not work. I deleted everything related to WLM but still nothing. When I run the install it thinks WLM is already installed. The sign in assistant runs a little bit, but ends up stopping with an error. I get this error when installing the sign in assistant:

When I click the blue words nothing happens.

(Part crossed out in red says Start Messenger)

Supposing you've got all of the updates for your computer (shouldn't affect much, but it's always a good thing to check), there shouldn't be a reason why it's not working. What I don't understand is why you're installing the Sign-in Assistant. You should just be able to have it store your information, or have it not remember your password if you share the user account with other people.

Make sure your .NET is up to the current status. My guess is that if you were using the beta you'd be set with that already. You could try Revo Uninstaller to remove other traces from the computer, but I'm not sure if that would be recommended considering it may do damage to your .net install.

For the 'older version' you're trying to install, is that the current stable build?

Just as a curiosity, why didn't you like the beta? I've been using it for the past few months, and I think it's great. The only two issues I've had with it is that it continues to warn me about links even after I've already clicked on them. It also seems to not show my custom emotes sometimes after I use them, but it will show them to the other person.

Try reinstalling the beta and doing a repair install. Then remove it in any evasive way you can. Might help clean up whatever is wrong.

Okay, I'll try the repair. I think I'm on the right track. I managed to make it say it's no longer installed.

I did a system restore and got to a point where I am able to use messenger. Its still beta.. but I don't care anymore. Thanks for your help.
