Operating System: Windows Vista : Business Edition (no, I won't go to XP. Vista is the future.)
Ammount of Ram: 2 Gigs
CPU Speed and Type: 2.2 Gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo (t7500)
Program Error is Happening in: IE, Firefox - I think Java's having issues...All signs seem to point toward it.
I've been having problems similar to what is described in the Knowledge Base, as well as on the forums.
KB Issue
I have tried altering the settings in Java in 256MB increments beginning at 256, and working to 1 GB. Unless I'm totally missing something, this hasn't helped.
In addition to the problem mentioned in the KB, I see the "logged in" screen, where you are able to click on the "Click to Play" button. However, I am not able to click this button. I also hear background noises, though I always play with sound off. Soon after I know I can't click to play, the screen will display the "Connection lost" message, and I'm shown the room I was in when I logged out last...However, this room, as well as my inventory, are totally empty.
I've tried uninstalling Java multiple times, with the last seemingly to help..Now the problem is back, and I don't know if there's anything else I can do. I've written 3+ tech support queries, and everything Jagex says to do hasn't helped. Mod Zappone responded to me several times attempting to help (and at one point I thought it was fixed!)...Here's what they said :
"
1. Delete your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and History folder in 'Internet Explorer', click Tools > Internet Options in the General tab click on both the Delete Cookies and Delete Files Buttons
2. Run an antivirus and antispyware program through a full scan of your computer. AVG supplies a free virus checker at
http://www.grisoft.com <http://www.grisoft.com/> and Spybot search and destroy is a free spyware remover available at
http://www.safer-networking.org.
3. Go to
http://www.windowsupdate.com and download all critical and recommended updates.
4. In 'Internet Explorer', click Tools > Internet Options > Privacy and lower this setting.
5. Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/download and install the latest version of Internet Explorer, with any service packs that might apply.
6. Make sure your internet security programmes/firewall/router are configured to allow RuneScape to use your internet connection. Also please make sure the following ports are unrestricted, 43594 and 43595 (for TCP traffic, both Inbound and Outbound). You will need to consult your user manual / help topics for the specific settings needed by your security programs/firewall/router.
The problem may also be due to you not having the latest version of the Java software or too many versions of Java installed.
The latest version of Java can be found by visiting
http://www.java.com
Please make sure you uninstall any existing versions of Java software before you update as this may cause problems if left on your system. Uninstall older versions by selecting Start> Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs.
Also try selecting different Java applets. These can be found at the bottom of the detail select page when logging in to the sever. Try each applet in order and both signed and unsigned versions."
*NOTE* I've used both IE and Firefox, and neither works...It's not just because of a browser.
Oh, one more thing...Sometimes RS loads fine. Yea, I don't know why either...
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
