http://crucial.com/ has both of what you are looking for.

They have some of the best deals on ram around, and they also have a scanner that will tell you what type of ram you need.

If you aren't comfortable using the scanner, you should be able to select your computer manufacturer and model number to see what type of ram your computer takes. They seem to have the info about tons of computer models.

I'd also compare prices with newegg (I've heard they are the best in the US, I wouldn't know, they don't ship to Canada).

Like Mike said crucial has a scanner and a knowledge base of the RAM for many computers even if you don't want to buy from them then you should use their service to see what kind of RAM you need and then you can compare the prices at other sites like newegg and tiger direct.

A Kid asked Jesus, "How much do you love me?" and Jesus said. "This much."
And spread his arms out on the cross and died.
If you believe that he did this for you put this in your signature.

Definately do as the previous two have suggested - use Crucial if not just for the scan. If you feel comfortable about using Ebay to buy the ram itself, go ahead. However, use the normal precautions when choosing a seller.

Is it ok to buy it still, is it compatable? Im pretty sure I dont have a gateway.

Yeah, you might want to check that. If you know your computer brand (should be on the case, or maybe within the computer properties), you should be able to find the rest of the information. Or you could crack open the case and take a look. Find the model number of the RAM, google, and you'll find out what kind you'll need to get. If it's DDR or DDR2 you'll be all set for pricing and ease of buying.
