AT&T just announced a deal to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom in a cash and stock deal worth $39 billion.

The deal would make AT&T the nation's largest wireless carrier by a wide margin, so it will probably face significant government scrutiny, and AT&T could have to make some big concessions.

Or the deal could be blocked completely -- last year was the first year that the FCC did not conclude the U.S. wireless industry was "competitive." The companies expect the deal to close in "approximately 12 months" -- a long time.

It's been one long winding path from monopoly right back to monopoly. They only ever split up in name, really.

But what did such a Teuton afterwards look like when he had been "improved" and led into a monastery? Like a caricature of a human being, like an abortion: he had become a "sinner," he was in a cage, one had imprisoned him behind nothing but sheer terrifying concepts... There he lay now, sick, miserable, filled with ill-will towards himself; full of hatred for the impulses toward life, full of suspicion of all that was still strong and happy. In short, a "Christian"... - Twighlight of the Idols

I'm with AT@T, but some of my friends were with T-mobile and complained about how bad it was, so now i guess they'll be happy?

I read an article about this on Reuters. It said that T-mobile carriers could end up paying more for the same plan now.

Still hasn't been approved by the FCC, and there's a decent chance that they won't allow the acquisition to go through. It'd be a shame to see the competition go away, but in my area they suck anyway.
