I remember getting a wireless mouse hooked up to the family computer, then taking the mouse into the other room and moving it randomly when my sister would try to do something.
Honestly I haven't done much to prank people. I remember having prank programs for my own use, but I didn't use them against other people.
I do, however, remember a few pranks that others have done: - Auto-correcting common words to other words. Works best if it isn't too obvious (ex: the => and | though I remember someone changing something quite common to '****' or some other curse word. Ah, 7th grade.) - Moving the login window to one corner of the screen so it's hard to see - Switching monitor, keyboard, or mouse cords with other computers. - Setting the background to a BSOD screen and hiding icons - Making the background a webpage, hiding icons. Alternatively, making it a static webpage (just an image) and hiding all icons. - Tapping the insert key when someone is typing + not paying attention (seriously, who uses the insert key?) - Changing default sounds (though most public computers seem to keep the sound low now) - Edit a hosts file to forward a few popular sites (ex - school site, google, yahoo/aol (back in the day), etc) to 127.0.0.1 or some random other address
Though the one I've done before is log into an open wifi spot that hasn't had any router settings changed and block sites / key words on random days. Logged into someone's router and blocked porn, virus, ***, help, and other key words on random days. Would also block access to Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc for other days of the week. It'd be easy to change the SSID for the access point too, and I did one a while back that had dual antennas so I named one Virus and the other Malware.. They stayed like that for almost a year before someone ended up changing them.
Anyway, in general, I don't mess around with people's computers. When I do end up doing something, it's generally harmless and often points out problems with their security. For those who've read this and haven't encrypted any wifi spots you have access to with WPA or higher, FOR SHAME.
