I saw an American attempt at force fields a few years back but it was simply a gun that would track and shoot down any incoming rockets before it came in close.

This is way cooler i think. 8)

well a few years ago, they were trying to surround an area with basically an electrical bubble. it worked on a small scale but was short lived since it required so much energy. i hope that it doesn't kill the soldiers surrounding it

They've already pulled it off with some car. So they've got around that problem.

Sounds pretty cool and feasible. Hope they can get it to work. This reminds me of that attempt I heard about a year ago to come up with an invisibility cloak. If I find the article, I'll share it. Very cool stuff. Force fields and stealth are my favorite military technologies. :P

Yeah, it'll be a long ways before Protoss-like forcefields are a reality. Though one would think that if implemented in the army, it would just cause some scientists to try to find more ingenious ways of killing someone.
