Hitler - the most famous person ever?

Think on this for a moment. If you were at home watching TV, in school writing an English essay or at a train station waiting for your connection, and a "famous" person, either PAST OR PRESENT, who is the person you would must quickly recognise, and be able to name.

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I've decided it would either be Albert Einstein or Adolf Hitler.

And then I got thinking some more. If we were to ask this same question to every single person in the World, who would "win"? I think I can answer this as well- Hitler. He is one of the few people who is instantly recognisable, both in person and by name, to someone from virtually any part of the World.

What do you think?

When posting, to make it a little more interesting, say who you personally think is most recognisable to you if they walked into a room AND what you think the result would be if everyone in the World was asked.

I dont know why Hitler is more recognisable than Stalin, even if Stalin killed ~3 000 000 more people than Hitler. Perhaps because his assault was world wide and affected many states?

But I believe you're right, Almost every one knows who he is.

I believe Einstein,Da Vinci,Hitler,Darwin are names that most people know about.
And uh...Maybe John Lennon and Michael Jackson? XD

Queen Victoria - even over a century after her death she remains a globally recognisable figure. Primarily because she's associated with a particular period of history. One often seen as a golden age.

I don't delve much into politics but.. I've never heard anyone say he was a good president, so for now I'll live with some ignorance and go along with it. Sure the internet could cure that though, he's said plenty of stupid things. First person that honestly came into my mind for widely known though.

Well then again.. if anyone in the world didn't hear about MJ before his death, they have now thanks to the media.

yeah i have seen those people before but i didnt know they where the beatles
but since u say pikachu does not count as a person i would pick

Doesn't matter. You know *who* the beatles are. As for the queen i have this thought in the back of my head about her being voted the most famous person in the world. But i can't for the life of me remember what this was based on, how long ago it was or if it even really happened.

Not that it matters, shes still far better known than pikachu; She gets the old people vote.
