Another shocker; am i right in thinking they've reset the franchise with this film? Historys changed, it never got put back, everything that has happened up till now has been wiped and given the writers a chance to start fresh, erase those **** stupid talking dolphins from enterprise? ERASE all the god awful seasons of enterprise even?! Huuurraaay. It was in need of it, the moment they brought in talking animals it was in need of it.
History wasn't changed. This is a different reality. The future we all know still happened. Spock traveled back in time from the 2380s to the 2230s (I believe) in this movie. And no, Enterprise still happened. Enterprise was set in the 2150s

It's not normal procedure to use the cadets. The only reason that happened was because the Enterprise hadn't had a full crew assigned since it was its maiden voyage.

i have not see it and i will most likely not see it
but i think this movie has basically killed the old star trek and star trek is going to be in trouble
now these new fans will go watchthe star trek tv shows and be wtf is this? and they will complain that the tv shwos stink
so did sar trek actually hurt themselves?
I enjoyed it. There was lots of little drop ins from future series. I consider myself a major expert on the subject matter as I have seen all of the episodes and movies, I liked this one. So no it did not kill
Star Trek.
It doesn't need the nerdiness as you guys have put it. All that matters is the true message of Star Trek which is still present.
Here are my four issues with it:
1. The ship was too bright. Ships are normally grey or tan shades. This happened after Enterprise so clearly that design would have already happened.
2. Scotty and Uhura could have been viewed as general characters who had never existed. The mannerisms of the others (Spock, Kirk, Bones, Checkov, Sulu) were portrayed as they would have been by the original actors.
3. The engine room is a series of tubes. The tubes can have thier purpose but they were filled with water. Typical engine coolant even in the 22nd century (Enterprise) was always a gaseous substance.
4. The warp effect was purple. The warp effect looked like the existing effect of accelerating to warp in previous instances of Star Trek. The purple wasn't necessary.
Overall it was great. Those were my only issues and they are very tiny. Ones that you all who have not seen the massive amounts of Star Trek that I have would not have noticed.
Oh yea, did anyone catch Scotty blabbering on about how he accidentally beamed Admiral Archer's prized Beagle away

That is one of the references that made the movie great for me. Of course also ending with the franchise's tagline was nice as well. The message I hope all of you that have seen it got out of it is that everything is done for the greater good and rather than just using a massive fleet of ships (with firepower) against the villain they (in most cases) work out a way to take it out without that many ships, in this case the black hole. I'd place this movie on the same level as Insurrection which is good, but not as good as the best (First Contact).
