The Westboro Baptist Church

Okay, so the drama club of my school is performing the play "The Laramie Project". Basically, it is about a *** man that gets fooled by *** haters to them being *** as well. So they kidnap him and drive him to the middle of nowhere where they beat him into a coma. He is found 18 hours later and gets driven to the hospital where he dies.

Now why am I telling you this? Well, because The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is coming to the performance March 13 to picket. That's right, they are flying on a plane from Topeka, Kansas all the way to Massachusetts to picket this play and other events going on in MA.

So, they are not allowed to buy tickets at the door and the principle can make them get off of school grounds, essentially defeating the purpose of their protest.

There has been a group created on Facebook to "counter-protest" and there have been plans to paintball them, throw eggs, etc. However, we have been told that if we lay a finger on them they can sue us for millions, which can fund other protests.

So...thoughts? Personally, I don't have a problem with *** people. I am Catholic but God loves all His children and I concur with that. Live and let live. Can't these people get real jobs or something? Seriously. Trying to make people as miserable as they are by protests all over the world.

They are actually banned from the United Kingdom because of their hate messages and such. I also heard they were going to Canada one time and got arrested right as they got off the plane. Good stuff.

If i was in ur shoes, young. I would kick all there ****. I mean swing away till they pull you off of them. This church preaches hate not love. I cant stand them. If they came to my school or a funeral of one of my friends you would see me on the news for assaulting the church members.

Churches suck! Pretty much everything they teach they dont do themselves, they are the biggest hypocrites. But if they do as the preach, what they are preaching is outrageous.

What grounds do they has to sue on if you do anything to them, assault? What you should do is wait till they get on the school property and then do something to them. Then you will have trespassing on your side.

They will never get on school property so I wouldn't hold your breathe. They never go "too" far. They go as far as they can while staying in the limits.

How is it legal? Because the pastor is a very distinguished lawyer and so is his wife. They also have a law office in Topeka.

Here's the scope:
The pastor is a lawyer ... meaning he researches everything before anything happens. He will go as far as the "law" will allow him. He loves it when people react, because unlike him, they don't know what they can and cannot do by law and that's where he wins and everyone else loses. If you go to my home town, you'll see him and his pupils of his church standing on street corners with their "God hates ***" hate signs.

I'm pretty sure that sums it up. Let me know if you want to know anymore about him or his church or etc.

Also, he travels where ever and all over to do these protests/rally, don't be surprised if he comes to your town.

Like Zac said, the pastor is a lawyer and so are most of the "Church" followers. Actually I'm just gonna call them a cult from now on.

Contrary to some of you may believe, this cult isn't made up of toothless rednecks. Most of them are actually lawyers and intelligent. They will use their book learnin's against you.

I agree though, it's like a cult almost. They have a 2 ft wide 10 to 15 ft tall brick wall surrounding their church.

Haha ... "Yeah! Just cuz we'd be from Kansas don't means we gotta be some hick rallying rednecks!"

The Westboro Church is a bunch of looney toon bible wackos. They should be thrown in an asylum.

As for the whole gays thing, I don't see the big deal. Let people choose to live however they want. They aren't hurting you by being ***. Anyone who says differently can go home and pretend like they are having divine Stigmata while they drive nails into their own hands.

Agree with the advice, you must not 'attack' them physically, neither directly nor with paintballs, eggs or whatever, or you put yourself in the wrong and liable to be sued. They would just love that.

My first thought was ridicule. You don't even need to say anything or jeer at them. Just a simple point at them and laugh. Doesn't matter if laughter is forced. I think there is a 'song' that is all loud laughter, get it on your mp3 players, or whatever and play as loud as you can.

Just a thought.

p.s. hope the play is a great success and supported by all the community

Just ignore them. They're doing what they are for attention. Act like they aren't there, which would be hard admittedly. I'm sure if they came to picket something I was part of I'd want nothing more than to see them all get hit by a bus.

Coming from a Christian who goes to Church every Sunday, this is not how churches are.

99% of churches go out and raise funds for the poor, or do missionary servies to spread the word to parts of the world with little to no influence of any religion.

In fact, last week our youth group actually took a trip to Cambridge to help clean up the bad parts of town.

Agreed.

If the group really was against it they wouldn't go rioting, they'd use speech. These people sound like an 'animal protection group' called PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Peta supposedly tries to save animals, but whenever they get some in their custody they kill them.

The best advice for your case is to ignore them. They aren't specifically 'after' you (unless you're part of the play). Like has been stated, they're doing this for attention and would love for you to retaliate back at them. By ignoring them you're showing that you're a better person then they are. They're baiting, but you won't be taking the hook.

I have no problem with *** people. I do have a problem with people who call people *** for no reason. Granted I do call some people ***, but that is my last resort. Westboro huh? I am down in Norwood.

Is it a high school play? I wouldn't expect them to come down for that. That's quite pathetic actually.

Some people are just hateful for no reason, I don't understand it, I never will.

My advice would be to ignore them, but then again, I don't think I could if I saw them.
