got my first buck today!

i know most of you wont care but ill post anyway

i was hunting with my dad by a fire lane that had a nut tree by it, and scrapes on the trees near because they are going into the rut (when they breed they get mad and scrap the bark off trees = scrap) and a small lake on the other side, we were set up in some pines it walked out from behind us into the fire lane and i shoot it right then. shot its neck (the only shot i could get, he was walking off)
and it droped like a ton of bricks right there and it was light outs.
got him right as the sun was comeing up, around 7:45am.

he's a 8 pointer. 130-140 pounds gutted, 160-170 pounds guts in
he's not very big antler wise, but body wise and meat wise his pretty nice sized.

but yeah, thats my first buck and 4th deer so far (like, in my life, not in this season)
and theres still 2 months left in the season so who knows, maybe ill get another.

oh and by fire lane i mean, a little row thru the woods thats tilled up
its ment to help slow down or stop a fire if one starts in the woods...but its like a deer highway.

sorry if my spelling is all messed up, im running off a few hours of sleep lol.

Dude, thats awsome. When I go hunting I go around the town and find the fattest guy I can. If he is over 300 pounds hes a 15 pointer. I need special fat penetrating bullets to kill him though or he will eat me in one bite....

no, what you need is a tree stand, by the time they try to get up the tree and fail, you can unload on em. same thing with wild hogs

Aw, cute animal. You going to eat it? I could never eat animals I'd killed, course I've only killed a fish. XD Still, even that i wouldn't eat afterwards.

well yeah, why else would i kill it? your right he is cute, to bad i couldnt get him mounted ($300!) off a deer that size we end up with about 60-70 pounds of meat...doesnt sound like much but you have to think of the bones, hide, fat etc etc...

see, the good thing about killing the deer my self is..its not farm raised so it has the best life it can have, no cages no nothing...then i kill it and eat it. no real suffering.
(of corse it might feel pain for 20-30 secs after i shoot it, but nothing like a farm raised animal)

You could end up with alot more than 70 pounds of food if you were serious about getting the most off of it.

yeah i agree, but it was in the 70's the day i killed it so we couldnt skin and cut it up ourselfs it would start to rot and the flys would be all over it..laying eggs ruining the meat.
so we took it to a bucher, they dont do the best of jobs getting all the meat. but you get about 80% of it.. you have to think it was 130-140 pounds gutted..thats with the head, legs, bones, fat, fur, and most of the blood...once all of thats gone and the blood is mostly drained its not going to be but about 110-100 pounds (or less) and not all of thats meat.

and when i said 60-70 pounds of meat, it was just a ruff guess i dont know for sure, when i get the meat back in a week ill let you know how much i got.

if it had been cooler out side, like in the 50's we would have done it our selfs and gotten more off of it...but it was to hot...its better to give up a little meat then to lose it all.
or get really sick from eating it.

I'd absolutely love to go hunting, thing is it's nigh-on impossible to do in England, what with all the laws, gun control etc.

Is there any way you can go over to the US, rent a gun, and have a week killing things, eat them and then just hand the gun back and go home?

well i dont know about renting a gun, but you could fly over here take your hunters saftey class
barrow a gun (you cant buy one if you dont live here) get your non-resdient hunting license (big or small game) find some land to hunt on, more then likely public land (thats what i hunt on)
kill some stuff and fly it back home with you...but you may need more then a week if you plan on takeing a deer. its down right hard! and be ready to sit in a tree 10 or more hours a day..and not move. i also need to add that you have to know how to gut it, and if its small game, gut it skin it and cook it. pretty much, if you do it by your self..its all on you. from finding a place to hunt and the laws to cooking it.

or to make it easyer all around, you can find a hunting guide that well tell you everything you need to do and help...and you have a better chance to kill something there...but be ready to spend big money...if your really wanting to, you need to check with the state laws. and check them good....can you guys hunt with bows over there? that might be easyer. hell if i knew ya i would take you, and if you had time i know you could get a deer or turkey or what ever.

but yeah, thats why i love liveing in the U.S. i love hunting and if anyone ever tryed to take it away from me i sure as hell wouldnt sit and take it.

haha yeah, its from prying his mouth open to check his age. he was about 3 and a half years old.
sounds young i know, but thats about middle age for bucks. i mean they can live longer but thats rare. think of it this way, most deer become mature by age 1. and start breeding then. so he is like some deers grandpa.

Lol, one problem. If they lean on the stand it may collapse and then Im fat guy food...
