The rocks were rather interesting. I had to check for various things such as the type, lustre, colour, hardness, streak colour, cleavage, etc... If it was an igneous rock you had to determine under what conditions it was formed. Fun stuff sorta... except I had a bit of a head cold.

Ah well, anyone do mineral identification before?

Omg, yes. I did that in Geology with the porcelain scratch plates. It got to be annoying when it came to rocks that had no streak (ie most felsic rocks). Mineral identification is kind of fun though, except when you have to sift through the various colours one stone of quartz can be.

never really done anything like that, but when ever i go places i always come home with a rock or 2, i've always liked em. i have rocks from alaska to hawaii to ohio to florida
you get the point. when i went to my great-grandma's a few years ago she gave me a box full of rocks from almost every state, a block of salt from the salt lakes and everything :P

yeah, i had a hell of a time getting that back on the plane home :x
what the hell was i going to do? salt someone to death??
"ohhh i salt your eyes so bad they water!!"

Really? I used magnifying glasses. Muahahahaha...ahahaha.

Mineral testing isn't all that fun. You do come across some really pretty rocks, like Labradorite.

I love it how when applied to rocks, cleaveage is bad. Weird, huh?
