There we go, Mr. Optimistic, we are just lifeless nothings without a purpose.
Oh, and I'm sure that there must be
something out there, but not as exaggerated as it is on television.
Well no, to say we are lifeless because we don't have souls or spirits is just stupid. We're quite obviously alive.
But yes, there is no purpose to life. We are here by pure random chance and you shouldn't let anyone tell you other wise. There is no divine purpose, no meaning of life (aside from what you personally aspire to) and despite what many, many people would have you believe, there is no god for you to devote your life to. No ghosts either.
On the subject of death i'll have my 1p. There is nothing. Complete and utter nothing after you die. The chemicals in the neurones and synapses in your brain stop working, thereby depriving the entity that is you of any and all consciousness, all feeling, any awareness. You cease to exist. Complete and utter nothingness. I find it hard trying to imagine what that's like, really, but i'm 100% sure that's what happens when you die.
